Sony schedules downtime for Store upgrade

Sony's official Knowledge Center has revealed that PlayStation Network will experience some downtime on April 14 in order to upgrade the Store.
As regular readers will know, Sony is planning to completely overhaul the Store next week, introducing much better navigation and improving the speed of browsing. The new Store will be a fully integrated application, as opposed to the web-based system currently in place.
Assuming the maintenance goes smoothly, we should get the brand new interface on April 15, followed by a significant content update two days later.
Here's the Knowledge Center post in full:
The PLAYSTATION®Network will be taken offline for a scheduled maintenance to our network during the following times:
Start: April 14, 2008, beginning at 8:00 a.m., Pacific Time
End: April 14, 2008, ending at 11:00 p.m., Pacific Time
During this time, the new PLAYSTATION®Store upgrade will be taking place. As a result access to the PLAYSTATION Network will be restricted, including:
* No access to the PLAYSTATION®Store
For information regarding the changes to the PLAYSTATION Store, please visit the PlayStation.Blog.
It is not anticipated that this will affect other PLAYSTATION Network services
Once the new PLAYSTATION Store upgrade is complete, a new system software version will be available for download. This new system software must be installed before you may access the PLAYSTATION Network.
Although this, officially, only covers North America, there is expected to be a similar maintenance period for Europe too. We'll keep you up to date on any developments.

I expected this. But it is a shame that it will take this long. Yet I haven't downloaded stuff from there in a while, and never frequently either.

i know, i cant wait for this sexy new Store. But i assume that we wont be able to do ANYTHING on PSN all monday long. GOod thing I got XBL :D. Just to be extra sure lets see what does LORD GINGO has to say about all this. Everyone....Bow Down........i said BOW DOWN BEFORE HIM!!! lol :P

this is rediculous americans should not be insulted and slanderized just because you didnt get some dlc im very offended NOT EVERY AMERICAN EATS MCDONALDS ive never ate there and everyone i know doesnt like to eat there either i know it sounds petty but i am tired of the stereotypes its not the american peoples fault that theres a higher demand here for games and that type of media and therefore are a higher business priority insulting a whole country because you cant download a videogame is assanine

Its not 3 hours, its 15 hours. 8:00 am - 11 :00 pm :)
I already hear people complaining that they may have some downtime from their gaming experiences. I just don't get you guys. You are the same people that complain the store sucks and we need more content and when they do something that will be better for both of those things, you complain that you have to have downtime.
You just need to relax, relaize that one day is not going to be the end of the world and be thankful we are getting what we are.

lol i love your avatar nitromikeo, i always laugh when i see it xD BUT on the topic, It is expected to have this long delay for them to get everything ready, and if anybody can't survive without the playstation store for 1 day, then you need to seek professional help. lol It is stated in the article that "It is not anticipated that this will affect other PLAYSTATION Network services." - MEANING = "We hope that online gaming still works when we do this, but don't be hatin' if it doesn't."

@encryptioncsta: First off, learn how to spell. Second, why are you getting pissed at the US over content? It's easier for SCEA to make everything into 1 or 2 languages than the whole span of Europe. Don't blame the US for SCEE's faults. Nobody is stopping you from making a US account. Blame SCEE for your lack of content. Do I get ticked at Japan for getting all the demos and games first? No. Did you not get GT5P before the US?
And if I DID want to get in a war with you, I'd say some stereotypical idea like "I bet you have bad teeth." But I won't. Why? Because I'm a US citizen and you are a shame to your country, you stereotypical prick.

First off, no home is not coming, secondly, we will have online gaming, they are just shutting down the store, not our internet connections. The online games are on a different server system and often have nothing to do with Sony. Finally, Stop complaining about the US. Just because you want to live here but are too poor to buy a plane ticket doesnt mean you have to bash what you dont have. If you had a choice between two areas to sell your product and one had "X" times more of a population with larger per capita income, where would you go.

Heh no problems, just play some single player games during the time, heavenly sword and assassins creed, trying to perfect them should easly fill up the down time.

No it will NOT be a Home open beta yet.I cant see them givein an open beta when the closed one is still trying to squash bugs. No this is just to update the store with new content and make the switch to the integrated version. They're saying it shouldnt effect online games assuming the games dont require an upgrade from the store.
