Sony’s London Studio has revealed that development of the highly anticipated PlayStation 3 titles The Getaway and Eight Days has been cancelled.
The company confirmed that the decision was made due to a recent budget re-evaluation for the studio, with the firm now putting all resources previously dedicated to the two blockbuster games into projects that are nearer to completion.
"It has been agreed that production of both Eight Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget,” said the firm in a statement issued today.
“This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion."
This will no doubt come as a major blow to PS3 owners, especially considering it was only recently that The Getaway had surfaced after a lengthy hiatus, with Eight Days have been confirmed as “gearing up to full production” just a few months ago.

Hmm, apparently Sony studios London is having problems developing for the PS3 as well lol. It's almost gotten to the point of being laughable at this point. I really was looking forward to the getaway. Oh well, I'm used to bad news from Sony's camp this generation. I'm kinda worried to be honest, because after MGS4,KZ2, and FF13, I think it's the end of the system's big games, and it will just be the same story as it's been since launch. Get your act together Sony, you still have a lot of catching up to do, and by the looks of it, I don't think you ever will.

As disappointed as I am - particularly with regard to The Getaway - I'm also a little optimistic. Why? Well, if they cancel titles like these, which have been quite highly anticipated for a long time, they would surely only do it for something they believe to be even better. Which can only be a good thing... can't it?
wat i would have bought the getaway gta in london wicked but seeing as though theyve reavaluated after the nearer games are completed they might continue with the development of these game in the distant so we may still see these game just not for 2-3 years

We all remember how amazingly photo-realistic The Getaway looked at E3. Looking at current games on PS3, even MGS IV and Killzone 2, you can see that there is no way the Getaway was ever going to look like in that trailer the shown telling us that it was running of the system. PS4 more likely, prove me wrong Sony.

What besideds Killzone and Resistance 2 are we talking about? Really this is not the time to be keeping secrets, We need to hear about these supposed exclusives because right now there's not a whole lot that is exciting me in the next 6 months that I've heard much of anything about!
Aplha2, fully agree. I bough my PS3 because of eight days. I'm very, very dissapointed. I don't know what the H is Sony thinking these days. It's seems like there's no direction on common sense...

Hmm, I think after I beat MGS4 that's it for me. No more purchasing games for this system. It's not like Sony can make themselves look any worse than they already do. Delay after delay, cancelled title after canceled title, they have already lost this generation, and if they try and stick to their 10 year plan, they will fail the next as well. When Sony starts canning first party titles, that puts up the red flag. Wake up Sony, if you keep doing this to the fan's that bought your product, I doubt there's gonna be any rabbit out of the hat tricks you can pull to win them back

Sony is even canceling titles on the PS3 now days... They should be doing more not less.

I also read on another site that they didn't say completely cancelled but put on hold untill the other titles are out and they have the resources and time to work on The Getaway and 8 Days again... So as far as I understand it it doesn't mean we'll never see them only that it won't be coming anytime soon.... Maybe the end 2009 or beginning 2010.
Really looked forward to both these games but if they never make it out I guess we'll just have to live with it. But I can't see that they won't make a Getaway 3. But there is still plenty of good exclusive coming our way... As long as they don'tcancel them too...
