We’re not sure why it has taken so long, but it looks like Taito’s revamped version of Space Invaders is finally making its way to the PlayStation Network.

Siliconera claims that Europe’s content rating board, PEGI, has leaked information that the revamped version of Space Invaders Extreme, which has already been released on Nintendo DS, PSP and Xbox LIVE Arcade, will be made available for download via PSN.

Having played the PSP version of Space Invaders Extreme we’re excited that PSN users will finally get to experience an excellent upgrade of the classic arcade game, which brilliantly manages to retain its classic feel but also brings with it some great new features and surprises.

Expect an in-depth new scoring system and tons of different aliens, all sporting a wide range of abilities, plus some great boss battles and full multiplayer functionality.

There’s no release date been given as yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything.
