PS3Center is reporting from the 3D Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles about new display technology developed by UK-based Blitz Games, which allows PlayStation 3 to push out stereoscopic 3D.
And just what is stereoscopic 3D, we hear you ask? Invented way, way back in 1840, it's a display technique that uses two different images of a scene to create the impression of three-dimensional depth. It's a common enough method in the movie biz, but has been considered almost impossible to achieve on videogame consoles.
Till now, anyway. Andrew Oliver, CEO of Blitz Games (whose products include such starlets as Tak and the Guardians of Gross and Bratz: Girls Really Rock) described the development as "an incredibly exciting and huge step forward for videogames."
"Our BlitzTech technology will prove beyond all doubt that we are already doing what some industry experts have said is impossible on today's game consoles," he went on. "Our highly tuned engine is capable of producing real-time interactive graphics that are close to offline rendered CG movie quality."
Not all TVs will be able to take advantage of BlitzTech, so check your manual before you invest. Not that you'll be able to invest just yet - Oliver declined to discuss how the new technology would be sold and what its likely price point would be.

I can imagine it, very possible for PS3, if done properly. I've looked at some stuff about this theory in the past, it's not 3d that ye need spexs for, but its typical 3d renderin, done in true 3d. I find it hard to put in lamens terms, but it'd drastically change 3d gamin. For geeks only, maybe. Think of it like the jump into HDTV.....

More TVs are being made with the 3D technology; no you don't wear the glasses. technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/gadgets_and_gaming/article5054247.ece
If you read down it does explain some of the drawbacks of it.

In fairness he does say "consoles" rather than "console" - the Xbox 360 will benefit from this too.

@Sriche22, what do you mean, have you ever mean to an iMax? it doesn't have to be 360 degrees there are really cool things that can be done. It would be awesome... for instance, let's say you are racing and you have like dirt and car fragments fly at you after a collision, or you are plyaing a shooter and you have debri flying at you or a rocket flying straight at you... there's so many cool things that could be done.
hopefully Sony jumps into it. If the PS3 can do it and other consoles can't it would definetely be a console mover feature... of course, they would have to support it with several GOOD games

Awesome tech, but unfortunately,it is likely to be shoved away into eternity, like so many other innovations b4 it.But i really do hope otherwise.
