Capcom reportedly entered early production on a second remake of the original Resident Evil about a year ago, according to insider Dusk Golem.
When asked on X if there would be a remake of the original game, Golem replied, “Yes, it started early production nearly a year ago (I hear last August-September is when it started pre-production), it’ll probably enter full production after Resident Evil Veronica is finished with its crunch period it’s in right now.”
The insider had previously outed the existence of Resident Evil 1 Remake back in March this year, although at the time noted that it’s still years out. As mentioned, this will be the second time that Capcom has remade Resident Evil, as the game was originally overhauled for the Nintendo GameCube back in 2002. This version of the survival horror classic was ported to PS3, PS4, PC, and Xbox formats back in 2015 with high-definition visuals.
Capcom is currently working on Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of 2000’s Resident Evil: CODE – Veronica, and Golem has previously stated on numerous occasions that a Resident Evil Zero remake is also in the pipeline for 2028. However, he claimed recently that the game was rebooted in mi-development, with Capcom Division 1 now helming the project.
