Midway Games has confirmed that its high-octane driving outing The Wheelman will be shipping globally on February 16, 2009, with the title arriving on UK shores on February 20.

Co-producer by burley action man Vin Diesel, The Wheelman takes the form of an open world driving game featuring intense car chases along with the ability to perform vehicle melee attacks in the form of “sideswipes” via the flick of the analogue stick.

Diesel commented: "We're designing Wheelman to play like a Hollywood blockbuster," adding, "Playing this game will be just like taking control of the greatest car chases from feature films, except this time you're in the driver's seat."

"Featuring Vin Diesel and set in Barcelona, Wheelman is a title with enormous sales potential,” enthused Midway’s Executive Vice President, Martin Spiess. "We're making a multi-million dollar marketing investment to make sure that gamers around the world are ready when Wheelman goes on sale worldwide, which we have planned for February 2009."

In addition to the videogame, a movie adaptation is also on the cards, with a script in development as we speak.
