Twisted Metal heading to PS3? (UPDATED)

Reports that the Twisted Metal series may be making the transition to Sony’s PlayStation 3 console have surfaced on the Internet this week, following claims of a “hidden” message found in the PS2 title, Twisted Metal: Head On: Extra Twisted Edition.

According to popular gaming forum NeoGAF, users have uncovered a secret message hidden in the Dark Past video in the form of several numbers which, when substituted for letters, allegedly appear to spell out ‘Twisted Metal is coming to the PS Three.’

This is further backed up by previous comments from Eat Sleep Play’s David Jaffe, who told GamePro, "if you want to know what our next game is, it's absolutely revealed if you have a sharp eye in Twisted Metal: Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition".

"It's a really cryptic riddle we put in there," said Jaffe.

Sony has refused to issue comment on the matter.

UPDATE:

David Jaffe has confirmed to Kotaku that Twisted Metal is indeed coming to the PS3, though he neglected to reveal if it would be available on Blu-ray or as a download via PSN.

    I hope they stick with the Twisted Metal Black type of game. That game was awesome. On the PS3? Awesomer!!! (yes, i realize that's not a word)

    I've never really tried any TM games as they're really not my type of game. But this is really cool! Easter eggs/secrets are almost always exciting! And with Jaffe's comment, this could turn out to actually be true!

    Why else do you think they started a Twisted Metal blog for a PS2 remake? What are they going to blog about if there aren't any new TM games in production.... ;)

     ye i had Twisted Metal Black  on ps2   good game   hope to see what this looks like on ps3         who was yr fav character  mine was the  mass murderer in an ice cream truck (Sweet Tooth)   ah love that guy.

    psn id: gingo... well  theres no reason why it wouldn't move to ps3 after the success they have had with the ps2 versions

    Oh my god. I cannot wait for this. Imagine how awesome it would be to have some footage at GDC. I will be buying this from day one.
