UK PS3 sales beating 360 by 10% in 2008

According to data obtained by Chart Track, Sony Corp’s PlayStation 3 outsold Microsoft’s competing Xbox 360 console in the UK by 10 per cent during the first 21 weeks of 2008.
The UK-based sales tracker further added that the Xbox 360 has seen a spike in sales following the release of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV, with Chart Track’s Dorion Bloch noting, “360 has caught up thanks to the GTA IV effect.”
Elsewhere, Block revealed that GTA IV has sold a total of 1.35 million units in the UK since its launch on April 29, with the Xbox 360 version accounting for 769,500 sales, and the PS3 release shifting 580,500.
As readers may remember, Sony Europe's David Reeves recently claimed that the PS3 is now comfortably outpacing the 360 in Europe, with the launch of Konami’s forthcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots expected to drive further PS3 adoption when it hits stores on June 12.

Interesting, I thought the 360 was killing PS3 this yearin UK? Isn't that what the arguement was when the information came out for Europe? It may be winning in Europe so far, but UK numbers brings it about even? Maybe I read those orginal thoughts wrong.

What this fails to mention is the PS3 continues to outsell the 360 despite the recent price drop across all the 360 SKU's, the cheapest now cheaper than the Wii.
We all know that the UK is the 360's strongest Euro country but it's still rather weak that 16 months headstart of hardware sales and 360 exclusive tv advertising amounts to 190k difference in software sales.

@1 - UK is part of Europe last time I checked
@2 - This is the number of units sold, it's obvious that the playstation sales are going to overtake because the 360 has been out for 16 months longer, they have a larger install base - which is what the real comparison should be about.

Well, when Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out there will be a signifcant increase in sales.

I don't think Sony need to cut the price of the PS3, as it's doing pretty well... but imagine if they did. It would surely mop up the stragglers.

MGS4 is the key. I really hope the 360 doesn't get it eventually, you know the way we got Bioshock.....i'd gladly be not able to play bioshock than keep MGS4 exclusive!

It’s a matter of time before PS3 rules totally. When you buy a 360, you just buy a good game console. When you buy a PS3, you buy a lot more than that! -

not suprising looking at true stats and figures more people r seeing the better product rather then hear how great xbox is from every fanboy out there. PS3 is kicking AS$ and taking names.

To be honest its not surprising why GTA IV is selling better on 360 and why the game is pushing more 360's than PS3 when you consider Microsoft's Marketing campaign to advertise the game with the cheapest version of the console across the nations tv screens. I must have seen the admore than 20 times and I'm someone who hardly watches TV.
There's a PS3 GTA IV bundle pack and I hacen't seen one ad for it on TV, on a advertisment board or in a paper. So how do Sony expect to sell it?
