US PS3 sales surpass 360's in May

During the month of May, SCEA boasted a 22,106 unit sales lead in the US over its primary competitor, Microsoft. The PlayStation 3 sold a total of 208,709 units while the 360 moved a lesser 186,603 units.
“Leading into a pivotal season packed with blockbuster titles and unique online service offerings, consumers have chosen the PS3 as their home entertainment console of choice - showcased by its year-over-year sales growth of 155 percent," remarked Jack Tretton, President & CEO of SCEA. "Poised for continued momentum, PS3 is delivering on its breadth and depth of exclusive titles to its gaming fans with today's prized exclusive title launch of Metal Gear Solid 4. The media have hailed 2008 as the year of the PS3, and with solid sales and growth opportunities ahead, we feel consumers are saying the same."
For those looking for more in-depth figures, 1.26 million software units were sold for PS3 in May, representing a whopping 234% increase from May 2007. Meanwhile, PlayStation Portable continued to boast solid sales with 182,310 PSPs sold. Rounding up the pack, the PS2 moved 132,708 units last month. This marks over 42.2 million PS2s sold in the US to date, an absolutely unprecedented amount. Will the PS3 ever attain that figure? Only time will tell.

Well whatever may be the reason, one thing is sure, June is gonna be PS3 month... I have just purchased my first PS3 (obviously the MGS4 bundle) and I am sure lot of peopel will do the same. I had a hard time finding it. All sold out.

dude i bet they sold a millions units already for june in the us alone there in absolutely NO mgs4 bundles anywhere

i hate shortages exscuses, if people really want something they will wait for the restock. itsa really bad exscuse seeing as how the PS3 is soooooo much more expensive and has no games right? if that is the case why would you settle just becuz of shortages, i mean it aint that bad of a shortage, if you want one that bad you can get a 360 easy. anyway, a month ago it was (worldwide sales) 360= 19M+ and PS3= 12M+ after this month what do you think that margin will be? my bet 360= 20M+ and PS3= 16-18M+ by the end of the year it will over take 360 in world domination

This really doesn't suprise me. This is only forshadowing of things to come. Crashbox's day's are numbred and then what will be their excuss? Flooding? Earthquakes? Maybe powere outages, yea thats it. People couldn't by a 3fixme because they couldnt find them in the dark. MS is such a joke.

The Take Has Begun.... like what gingo PS3 might out sell 360 4 the rest of this, probably 2009 aswell. 360 is hardly getting any exclusives out and they are, its minor ones. Only major exclusive 360 has gt is GOW 2 and tht alone will do in terms of catchin up with the PS3. Looks like its over 360 o-well,... I told ya so! ; P PSN ID...Y-Dawg Bow Wow

The ps3 finally getting the credit it deservs, much better console the 360, but fable II and gears of war 2 are games i have to get for my 360 and those games are definetly going to boost the 360 up

and i think most of them sales of the 360 are just replacements for the tons of people that get the rrod,have you seen the xbox forums theres tons of guys maybe girls aswell saying they been hit with the rrod then theres the other half that have already had it happen to them,not fair to count replacement sales.also msg4 n civ revolution rock go ps3

This is what is happening; microsoft is fighting to maintain it 360 fan base. That is why they have to do everthing possible to release good titles.Meanwhile people other than ps3 fans have started realising how good the ps3 is and they are joining its fan base.This keeps the ps3's fan base growing.With the more eclusive titles coming out on the ps3 and more services from the Home and PSstore, these will keep people coming in for it. Instead ms is fighting to keep its fan base in place, else they will sell off their 360s and go for a ps3.
