Max Payne theatrical trailer releasedPresident of Philips Consumer Electronics, Stewart Muller, announced that Target will go Blu-ray exclusive.
It does seem a little weird, an announcement like this not being announced by Sony first. However, Muller announced this at Philips' CES press conference. We will let you know directly when Target confirms this.
Along with this announcement he announced a new Blu-ray player, the BDP7200 Blu-ray player. We can't name any specifications as of right now.
We will have more on the Target going Blu-ray exclusive, as soon as it is released. And stay tuned for more news from CES 2008!
UPDATED: According to Blu-ray, as well as Philips, this has turned out to be a rumor much like the first time it was passed around the jail house. Sorry for the confusion and we'll keep you posted if anything changes again, thanks.

WOW!!! If anyone thought HD DVD had a chance, this pretty much kills it.
kiss it good bye hd dvd!
W00t! I'll be glad when this is over.
i love is poor poor hddvd RIIIIIGHT lol they should just give up
psn id J08hawks
psn id: gingo.... why would sony announce this first? its up to target what format they sell and if the philips press event was before sonys why not announce this as early as possible
Do they mean that Target will continue to sell only BD players, or are they referring to selling BluRay discs exclusively?
Now if Walmart goes blu, HD DVD is pretty much screwed in North America.
@ Blusteel...they will sell it all
Way to go Target!!!!!!!!! We must support Target!!!!!
BLU-RAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just read on Gizmodo, Target is going to still sale the HD-DVD add on for the 360 and sale HD DVD discs, but not the stand alone player.
There sure has been a sleuth of goofd blu-ray news so far huh?
It's not like Blu ray needed anything else going with them, anyways. It's already a done deal.
Umm the Update says it's just a rumor. Damn.
warner bros, new line cinema, now Target. HDDVD has to give up, if they dont they will very very little income.
It almost doesn't matter that Target isn't exclusive right now since they're only selling Blu-Ray players anyway. They made a commitment in August that they would make more shelf space for Blu-Ray films over HD-DVD and they only sold Blu-Ray players over the holidays.
While they haven't dropped HD-DVD entirely the fact that they're putting more attention on Blu-Ray is enough to call Target exclusive.
Also consider that no stores have HD-DVD exclusive deals. Meanwhile Blu-Ray has Blockbuster, BJ's Wholesale Club, adn Target (more or less) in their back pocket.
"It does seem a little weird, an announcement like this not being announced by Sony first"
People please please please understand that blu ray is not a proprietary format. Sony oes NOT call the shots. The head of the Blu ray Disc Association is from PHILIPS. Even if this was a rumor there would be something wrong if this announcement "DID" come from sony.
It only makes sense. Why would retailers sell a disc player that doesn't have any movies? I know I would be pissed if I bought an HD-DVD player and didn't realize that no movies were coming out on it.
well they will make it offical soon... It would only make sense... I'm guessing sometime in May... Thats when Warner goes Blu Ray Exclusive... So with 70% hollywood studio backing of Blu ray... you can see more retailers leaning toward Blu ray exclusivity
IDIOTS READ THE UPDATE ITS A RUMOR NOT TRUE FALSE GET IT but still blu rays got it in the bag
yup hd dvd = dead... literally sucks if u spent 300$ on a hd dvd player
I thought Target went Blu-ray exclusive a long time ago.
Guess it's just another dumb rumor.
