Videogames blamed for England defeat

Stereotyping abound, as video gaming is blamed for yet another unfavourable event.
The assistant manager for ‘popular’ football (that’s soccer to the yanks out there) team Bolton Wanderers, Chris Evans, made the bizarre claim that England’s national football team lost their recent qualifying match because of video games.
Most of the English team are in their late 20s and early 30s; hardly the typical age for hardcore video gamers. And hey, if they’re going to stereotypically blame video games, how about blaming the stereotype of the “play boy” life style these professional divers lead?
On the bright side, the fair streets of England will be amiss of drunken football louts this summer. Or would that be a stereotype?
Stay tuned.

Right, now games are to blame, not the lack of a good manager and the TOTAL lack of players beyond the first 11.English have no one to blame but theirselves (I'm Greek :P).
CroatianMetalMan- AC is very good but slightly overated. GREAT stuff in there, all three cities are bewilderingly beutiful, the fights are a bit monotonous but great nontheless, and Altair, although has a bad voiceacting feature, is soooo cool.
It does get a bit boring to to the same as you approach the end, but if you got 70euros to spend, or even better 69.99, do get this, it's just great.

Well, I'm English, and I have no sympathy for the England team. They lost because they're crap, plain and simple. Now we're not seeded for the World Cup, and so will probably get harder teams in the qualifying for that... so we won't qualify there, either! English players are over-paid and way over-rated. Fact. I see Stevie G had a 'good' game today against a useless Newcastle side... shame he can never do it for England, eh?
Go on you Gunners! Clear top of the Prem with all our truly talented foreigners! Just think, if Blatter gets his way, the Prem will be England 'quality' throughout... wouldn't that be a sad day?!
Screw the national team. I'd rather have an entertaining Premiership full of foreigners every week, than be bothered about a lacklustre national team that plays a few games a year, and a tournament every two.

Yeah man come to America, we got so many sports, and sporting teams. That even though one lets you down in a sport (New York Yakees) for me this year, another one of your teams (New England Patriots) is kicking butt in their sport. Just do it legally tripleDK, we got enough illegal aliens ruining this country :)

That is pretty pathetic. Too many people these days are looking for scapegoats instead of owning up to their problems.

Sounds like Chris Evans is a liberal, blame everything on something else, its not your fault, your the victim, the world isnt fair enough, we need more government to make it fair, the other team didnt have affirmative action. I bet im starting to sound like that assistant coach now.

This is ridiculous! I know video games are the unjust wipping boy of the media, for violence and aggression, and I can see where these ideas come from (even if the evidence is against the conclusion, I can see how the misinterpretation happens) but using games as the scap-goat because our national football team's talent just doesn't match up is outright insulting!
Try blaming the player for their performance, not the other past times they enjoy! -

I think that PSU needs to do a better job of researching the info for their articles. They are way off baseby saying the soccer team is hardly hardcore gaming age. In fact most videogame consumers are in the 27-35 year old range. I was surprised the first time I read that little fact but its true.

I thought this false stereotype died ten years ago.

England is a crap football team, can't they just admin that! I'd never support my country in football, I'd rather support Brazil or Italy or something, and I'm from England!
Videogames has nothing to do with it, watching England play football is like watching paint dry, how dare you compare that to videogames Chris Evens you muppet.

If you look at the source of the infomation it is about how they said on the radio that kids are no longer out in the street or on the fields playing football, they're all inside playing on their consoles. Which I must say is very true, I cannot however say the same for the England players as throughout their lives they have been kicking a football around. So I don't see how video games are to blame for the England defeat. I also don't see how games are stopping future talent as the ones who are talented are not kicking the ball in the street. They like football, played football at school maybe and realize they have the skills. From there they move on to football schools and get into youth teams.
No you don't see kids playing football anymore like they used to when I was a kid but none of these kids are ever going to be a professional or even a semi-professional footballer anyway, so who cares.
The real problem I think is down to they way we pick our players. When Eriksson was in charge it was obvious he didn't know about the English game and their players. So he picks the usual talent from the big teams. McLaren takes over and I thought at first after getting rid of Beckham that we might have someone who is going to change the team and has his head screwed on. Eriksson is at City and he now proves he can manage a team when he can pick players he knows about and has more options. However Mclaren shows that he is also picking the same players from the big teams. He was probably pressured into bringing Beckham back. Other English players aren't going to get a chance becasue they're at a smaller club and don't have the players around them to help him shine, so he's not scoring. Put him in one of the big 4 and we may see what he is really made of.
We need a new system of picking players and to find what is Englands best 11 out of all the Premierships teams and even maybe the Championship? We need to create a system so in the summer time when the season is over we can find the better players. Let England act like its a club and the players are trying to get in, so there will be trials and the other things, the same as what a club would do to pick the better youth players and under 21's. Also I think it will be good to have a Nations Cup every year in Summer between England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and Rep. Ireland. (not when World Cup and Euro Cup is on)

England have themselves to blame.... They were never good. I've been watching Premier League since i was a kid and a die hard fan of Man Utd. But i was never an England fan. They just suck as a team. PERIOD. They'll never win any major trophies. NO OFFENSE TO ENGLISH. And i think they need Jose to at least have a chance.
