Nintendo Wii is continuing to outsell the PlayStation 3 in Japan, with the latest hardware figures from Enterbrain revealing that Sony’s next-generation machine has been outsold by three-to-one for the month of August.

PS3 sold through a total of 81,541 consoles during the four-week period up to the week ended August 26, with Wii selling 245,653 units. Once again, sales of PS3 have vastly eclipsed those of the Xbox 360, which sold 11,000 units in the same period.

However, the gap between the two consoles appears to be steadily closing, with the sell out rate dropping from six-to-one in June, and four-to-one in July. With this figure now at three-to-one, it appears the console has finally gathered sufficient momentum in the region, despite its slow inception back in November last year.

We’ll continue to track PS3’s retail success on a global basis, so stay tuned for any further developments.

Well change doesn't happen in a day, or a month. If SONY stays at it then eventually it'll be reversed.

They try to say that oeople are starting to realize that the Wii can't handle over 400 lvls of Tetris, Pacman etc. But the PS3 can! It can also handle over a thousand of chars with very detailed and different A.I. each!

Is the PS3 selling more or the Wii selling less?  Could it be possible that enough people have gotten a Wii and sales are decreasing from lack of demand? Just a thought...

"Nintendo Wii is continuing to outsell the PlayStation 3 in Japan"... Because it's CHEAP. ////See I told you guys last time but you keep forgetting to add that part. That's a large flaw in your reporting you need to fix.

In my opinion. The PS3 should only be compared to other products thats in its price range. Why compare a cheeseburger to a steak??? Cheeseburgers will always sell more because its cheaper. But not necesarily better.

    Expected.

I agree with Punisher99,just imagine how well the PS3 would be doing right now if it was $250 cheaper.

I don't care if even Wii sold 100 times more than PS3, I don't consider it a next-gen console. More like an over-sized tamaguchi.

thats not really great news is it? The facts are that  demand is not infinite and the reason the ratio  is decreasing is because most people will already own a wii. Price determines demand not quality. Still i have to agree with the above comment that the ps3 sales should be cut some slack, as despite them being value for money, they are far too expensive for many.

Seems really good taking into account that its the far superior console and the most expensive. Prepare for the PS domination!

The Wii is just a fad. It will go away and hopefully people with trust Sony more then Microsoft.
