It's too bad you can't dual boot the PS3. I'd love the choice of booting Linux or the PS3 OS.

Is this program safe... Will it harm my PS3, does Sony approve of this program?

I love linux but I have a computer, I don't need my PS3 to do everything, but I like the fact that it could if I wanted it to.

so basically using this software will tun my ps3 into a computer? thats cool and all but i dont like the fact of having to back all my saves for which i have other profiles for different ppl in the house. im not going to do it unless it comes out in an update from Sony.

@7-Sony isn't going to release Linux in a firmware. They give you the option to do it and thats it.

@2 you can dual boot ... that's the whole point. It just uses part of the hard-drive for linux and the rest for PS3. IIRC you just go into settings->system settings->otheros and set it to boot into the other OS
@4 It depends what you use it for
@6 Listen to 7. In fact Sony provide the necessary toolchain for PS3.

@2, like 11 said, as of right now I'm quite sure you HAVE to dual boot.
@8, it doesn't void the warranty. Sony implemented the ability to dual boot other operating systems as a selling-point.

I'm not running my PS3 on an HDTV right now, so this activity is kind of....impossible actually. It's a shame, too, because I REALLY need it for VLC and Firefox and such on my big TV compared to my tiny monitor.
/sigh
