Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida has reaffirmed the company’s belief that 2008 will prove an auspicious year for the PlayStation 3, noting that all major components “are coming together,” from hardware pricing to new software.

Speaking with VG247.com, Yoshida commented, “All the things are now coming together in terms of the right hardware, cost and pricing, and we are increasing our hard disc space as we are increasing the content we’re offering through the network and the big titles we’re working on, coming out this Christmas.”

“All that is coming together this year.”

Asked whether or not 2009 would prove to be another successful year for the platform holder, Yoshida responded, “I definitely hope so,” adding, “We are feeling very comfortable about the momentum we have on all PlayStation platforms, and especially the way things are going in Europe. It’s very, very encouraging.”

While he wasn’t exactly forthcoming on unannounced product for next year, Yoshida assured readers that there’s plenty of work going on behind closed doors, before highlighting a number of big hitters for 2009, such as Heavy Rain and Massive Action Game.

“That’s not to say we’re not working on product for next year,” he said. “We have some titles that we have announced this year for release next year, like Heavy Rain and MAG, our big 256-player online title.”

“Also there are some titles that we are targeting to launch next year that we have not announced yet. We still have a lot to come.”

I'm still hoping to hear about Brave Arms, Second Season One and Chain Lim!t  (the games that  Namco and Sony  were planning to make together, from a company called Cellius - I'm not sure if they will still exist, seeing as Ken Kutaragi was the chairman of Cellius - but, the games were looking great and I'd love for them to be announced in 2009)

2009 is looking soooo much better than 2008 for the PS3, all I can say is that with MAG, GOW3, Wardevil (possibly), Uncharted 2 (end of 2009 hopefully), Ratchet and Clank and Killzone... THE PS3 IS THE BEST GAMES CONSOLE. (I know some of those titles I've mentioned haven't been confirmed for 2009 but my instincts tell me they will be released then)

i'm looking forward to seeing DIGIGUYS WARDEVIL: Unleash the beast Within. DigiGuys 1080p engine looks like it can makes some killer games and Wardevil it self looks amazing . i hope Sony dont end up letting M$ steal it from them and the worse part would be it going multiplat.

i recently, out of curiosity, looked up sonys studios and seriously less than half of them are working on announced projects soo either sony is just paying over half of the people that work in their entire games division to do nothing or theres a ton left to be revealed, i would bet cash that its the latter

I think everyone expected the PS3 to just explode right out of the box like the PS2 did, but that didn't happen, which is okay because they decided to take on  10 year plan. As a sony fanboy it has been really hard for me to wait this long for solid titles but I'm glad I did because 08 has been good to me and 09 will probably have more Killer Apps and we can look forward to 09 being the year that most games just plain surpass any chance of fitting onto 360 media and hardware, which means more exclusives for us. Also the PS3 hardware is finally getting the acclaim it deserves, I think this is the only time a console has come out and 2 years later even the best titles (like mgs4) haven't tapped 100% of its power. Remember when we measured systems in how many "bits" it was?

Looks like M$' strategy of just stealing things and putting in money instead of effort is finally getting a fail. Sony FTW!
