Zipper: MAG only achievable on PS3

During an interview with Gamespot, Zipper Interactive lead designer Andy Beaudoin revealed that when the team set out to develop MAG (Massive Action Game), they wanted to develop something that would only be achievable on the PlayStation 3.

“Obviously, with PlayStation 3 we’ve got a lot more power we can tap into to try to create different games, so we sat down and tried to figure out how we could take a lot of the shooter experience we had… and create a game that was going to be unrivaled,” said Beaudion. “Basically one that could only be done on the PlayStation 3."

So far, there has yet to be a game to support 256-player combat without being an MMO. From the looks of it, MAG looks to revolutionize the third person squad action genre. For more on MAG, stay right here on PSU.

    If Zipper can pull this off and come through with everything they have said so far, This game will go down as generation defining. Its great to be owning a PS3 right now =)

    If 256 players is possible could we then get a Warhammer 40k game, it be would incredible, imagine the epic battles of Dark Angels/Ultramarines Vs Chaos Marines/Orks, Rhinos, Dreadnoughts and Titans as the various forms of militia!!

    The PS3 is my first venture into online gaming, starting with Resistance, then into Warhawk (which I still play) and MGO. All of which are great games for reasons you're probably well aware of. THIS game however threatens to blow everything out of the water it's just absolutely gonna kick a $ $ !

    best of all, during E3 they said expect more news soon; and that it's been in production for 3 years... meaning it's not too far out like some people said; must likely by the holidays of '09

    @ 9 ... what about FF versus, White knight storys, Wardevil etc etc there's alot more than 14 exclusives on the PS3 :)

    If done right this could be an amazing game.  Of course if this turns into one of those "hi diddle diddle, everyone rush down the middle" type of games, it could suck.  Of course they said you'd be split into squads, so maybe they'll work the gameplay out to where it's fun to play and not just a massive slaughterhouse.  This would be really cool if they set this during the Korean War where you'd have hundreds of screaming Chinese soldiers rushing down a hill at you though :)  Keeping an eye on this one for sure.

    the 256 player depends on the servers and not the consoles so that can be done on the 360 and ps3 but the games visuals and other aspects will determine if it can be done on the 360 or not.

    Just some tips. There's an article on IGN that reveals that MAG will play like SOCOM, just on a larger scale, even though you're not actually fighting against 256 people. So, IMO ya'll should get SOCOM: Conforontation to get used to it, because honestly, coming from FPS myself into S2, it is f'ing difficult to get good at it. Plus, more people to play with on Socom!

    Im afraid these guys are gonna focus too much on 256 players and not the actual experience like with HAZE they focused on the two halved gameplay and forgot graphics AI and story

    Are the MGS4 going to the 360 rumours true? I just read from two sources that it's happening, and that it's going to include extras, like VR missions and "Snake In The Valley" Sony's legal team apparently had some of the news removed....

    west end matt, me too, ps3 was the first leap into online gaming as well. This is just insane! when resistance was going 60 player online i thought that was nuts, but this is crazy, if they make it work and im sure they will, like TheRealCarbonfibre said: Generation defining.

    theres an article on IGN talking about the difference between this and Battlefield, and thats 3rd person, which IMO, is a much more satisfying experience (Killzone 2 MP looks sick tho). He also said it plays just like SOCOM in terms of tactical play. So basically if you're well versed in SOCOM gameplay, you'll be able to adapt quickly.     Come on! dont be such a fanboy (joke). If this is taxing even the PS3's architecture, then there's no way it is possible on the 360. The 360 can't even handle dedicated servers! It's possible on the PS3 only, BECAUSE of it's open online system and dedicated servers that have already been done on both the PS2 and current PS3 shooters. I'm sure if it taxes the PS3, it's going to be more graphicaly impressive than the 360 could handle. I mean ~7 cores of usage vs 3.. come on it's not even close. Zipper works really closely with Sony (as it is Sony owned), so they should have a lot of experience in handlin PS3 architecture, similar to what Guerrila did with KZ2 and MM with LittleBigPlanet. RANT OVER!! ahaha

    no metal gear is not going to the 360 and that was CONFIRMED at the sony e3 conference... read it or watch the highlights  and you'll get proof.

    that trenton dude for the sony conference said "its only possible on the ps3 thanx to its blu-ray capabilities". so there ya go... oh and as far as 256 players.. WOW OH FU**ING WOW is all i got to say. zipper is perfection to the psn community and it will DESTROY (MARK MY WORDS) DEF**INSTROY xboxlive and the 360. :) good goin sony and sweet azz move zipper.

    He didn't confirm anything, he just said it wasn't possible on the 360, which is exactly what Square said about FF13, there are now a couple of sources that are throwing this out there, and it seems pretty legit. And these news came through just a few hours ago

    i don't know about the name, why not call it socom 4? i've always dreamed of a massive online action game like this. and now, it's reality! and PS3 exclusive! the other consoles just can't bet this. this E3 belongs to the PS3.

    I hope Sony publishes this game. does anyone know? cause this whole "it cant be done on the 360" junk, is very hard to swallow anymore. sony has been letting me down for way too long, ansking for our patience way too long. They need to deliver something true and soon.
