Toshiba have jointly developed with Sony technology to mass-produce customized semiconductors with 65-nanometer circuit widths in their Oita factory in Japan. The 65 - nanometre technology is likely to be Sony’s Cell, which will be part of the PS3's processor. Toshiba said it's aiming to begin sample shipments in March 2004 and mass produce the chips during the first half of the fiscal year starting April 2005. Although the release date for PS3 is still not known these dates indicate a late 2005/early 2006 release for PS3.
