Killzone 2 beta to surface in '08

Killzone 2 -- it's the game that dropped all our jaws with it's impressive unveiling at E3 '07. With unparalleled graphics, an innovative first-person cover system, and promise for an addictive online mode, what's not to like? The big question remains though - when will we finally get to play it?!

One already known fact is that gamers will get their paws on an online beta before Killzone 2's official release. Guerilla Games' lead tester, Seb Downie, confirmed that fact earlier this year on Killzone 2's official forums:

"Of course there is going to be a public beta. I have always said that any game that has an online mode needs to go through a public beta to ensure it works as intended," asserted Downie.

His statement spawned news articles across the internet that the Killzone 2 Public Beta might be available in 2007. However, that turns out not to be the case. PSU.com contacted a SCEA Spokesperson to get an update on the situation.

"We are hoping to do a beta but I don't think we'll have anything ready before this year is over... it is something we are working on for next year," he wrote.

This quashes earlier rumors which suggested that it would indeed be available in time for the holidays. However, he prompted us to "keep in touch [as] we'll have more soon."

Our expected release date for the full title lies sometime within the mid to late '08 time frame, based on it's full support of PlayStation Home (which has been delayed into 2008) and its beta release next year.

Stay tuned to PSU.com as we'll have a full-fledged feature on Killzone 2 early next year. Prepare yourselves.

I'm guessing we're going see the full release around July since that would put it between the projected release dates for GTA IV and MGS 4 and if these guys have any BRAAIINS!! they won't try to go head to head against those 2 game giants. So maybe we'll see the beta in March or April. I hope.

Okay not to throw water on the burning love for the game but I think we ALL know it's going to get judged more on it's multiplayer than it's expectedly beautiful singleplayer. So the question is: what are they going to do that makes it "addictive"? The previous KZ was a good game, undeserving of the hate which it received only because it was perceived to be some kind of "halo-killer" by the media.  But if the original game was fine on it's own and not only Halo but but Haze, Team Fortress and how ever many other games out there with multiplayer are being called some of the most exciting multiplayer experiences around, what can KZ do to stand out?

I propose not just 4 player co-op but a whopping 16 player online co-op campaign with several missions. What it comes down to is this. People like playing with others and the more people you have the better. Everyone loves Co-op but frankly the ammount of it lately has been staggeringly weak. You want Kill Zone to kick A55? then this is what's required. Other wise it's just going to get dumped on as an expensive but weak and disappointing game dispite having the greatest graphics on a home console game ever created.

    Thank you.

Sick, One thing though if a game is ever to be compared to Halo they must have a great theme song an soundtrack, I must say the one thing I enjoy about that game is its theme song. I hope Killzone blows it out of the water though like it did at E3 this year

You guys have your release dates so wrong.  This game should be out around feb-march not jully-aug. They need this game to comeo ut a few months before MGS4 so it wont get trampled in the hype. LBP in Jan-Feb. KZ2 Feb-March. MGS4 March- June. Anyways this game will be top notch and i can only wish to get in the beta.
