Wii dominates May sales

The numbers for May are in, and while sales for the PS3 aren’t waning, Wii sales are still standing strong.

The PS3 managed to sell 81,600 consoles in the US of A, while the Wii sold 338,000. At roughly 4 to 1, it’s not a huge amount of difference from the previous month. But it is a bit better then being outsold 5 to 1 in home territory.

According to Bloomberg, there is a 79% increase in console sales compared to the same time last year. This is most likely due to the fact that all the ‘new’ competitors have been released, while last year only the 360 was out.

It’s not all bad news for Sony. Sales of the PS2 were in the region of 187,800, outselling the 360, which moved 154,900 consoles last month.

With a volley of new games on the way to the PS3, these numbers are sure to change in the not-to-distant-future.

Stay tuned.
