Capcom to shift focus from PS2 to PS3 in 2008

Capcom has announced that the company plans shift its software development focus for Sony consoles over to the PlayStation 3 starting next year.

Up until now, the firm has pooled much of its resources into developing titles for the PlayStation 2; however, it now plans to adopt a much more aggressive approach with Sony’s next-generation console starting from 2008.

Additionally, Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto also stated that the company plans to release games on a multiformat basis in an effort to maximise profits.

The firm is currently developing a number of sequels to popular franchises for the PS3, including Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5, both of which are scheduled for release in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

Stay tuned for more developments from Capcom as they break.

I think when they say multiformat....they mean ps2 games will go to the ps3 and 360...games on the 360 will stay on the 360 (Dead Rising, Lost Planet, etc.)  I understand the business sense, I just don't enjoy being lied to.  People will respect you more if your honest about it Capcom.  JUST SAY IT..."we can make more money on the 360 right now so we don't really care about taking 360 games to the ps3 since the install base is so small at this time."...lol, but oh yeah, telling the truth would be business suicide for your future.

We have to wait 'til 2009 for RE5!!! With that much time to produce, it better be really good! How long did the latest movie take to film and release? I wonder?!?

As far as I'm concerned, Cap0com's executivescan eat sh!t and die for all I care.  None of their games are worth playing which includes that run into the ground franchise called Resident Evil.  There are way better games coming out from other companies like Konami.

I too agree that Crapcom (as a company) can eat sh!t and die.....but lets be real there RE isn't bad at all.  But they have the potenial for greatness....PowerStone 3, Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Chaos Legion 2, Breath of Fire 6, Monster Hunter 3 and Okami 2 (yes..wishful thinging lol)....an announcement of these titles for current-gen consoles (lets face it, nex-gen now is the PS4) will put that money grubbing, MS curry favoured company on the map big time!

psn id: gingo.... i hate when companies go multiplat when it was sony who gave them a decent home and got them to where they are today, fair enough new companies or companiesl ike EA and Ubisoft who have always made multiplat i dont critisize them but companies like Capcom who got where they are today through sony have paid them back terribly

you knwo what i really dont care about multiplat company expecially one that outright states that there makin games only for the profit which mean whatever consolel is the main console for that company the other console will just have suckie ports of the game  im not sure bout anyone else but exclusive games and companies are the only ones who really get my money cause then i know they made the game with the intent for the person to purchased it to have the best experience possible not to just get a few bucks out my pocket to maximize there profits

I am still waiting for RE5 and DMC3. Still I'm not that all surprised that Capcom's titles up until now have been for the PS2. Better late then never I say.

i dont like the way SONY is giving OUR "sony" games to microsoft. LIKE COME ON if they like our games why dont they get ps3 instead of 360. i think since microsoft is getting our games, we should take their games like halo 3 and gears of wear since they took our GTA IV and smackdown vs raw 2008. I think we should even it of getting punked

Microsoft is paying companies, like the one who made Bioshock, to keep the game from us.  We lose a lot of exclusives from waiting too long, but MS is still losing exclusives as well. Saint's Row 2 anyone?  I doubt I'll buy it but at least it's a nice title being ported.  Halo 3 is a fscking cash cow and that's where a lot of the money is going; buying out PS3 ports.  At least MS isn't getting Manhunt 2.
