PS3 firmware v2.01 is out

The next firmware update for PS3, v2.01, has just been released via the PlayStation Network.

The update is cited as "a minor update that will improve the stability of the PS3." We're assuming this will translate into fixes for recent odd occurrences such as your local PS3 turning itself on and booting directly into its remote play setting.

Hopefully, this new firmware will also resurrect the rare PS3's that disagreed with firmware v2.00, refusing to start games among other things.

Once again, there are no new features with this firmware, just some stability upgrades. You'll have to stay tuned for news of exciting new firmware features (in-game XMB) sometime in the future.

Hopefully things look up for you guys that suffered this, I don't like seeing people complain on something that shouldn't have happened with any firmware update.

I have had the problem with the remote start/play feature in that when you turn the console off via your PSP it turns itself on and off almost every two minutes, plus i use wireless on my PS3 and find that the wireless turns itself off after a few mins when the unit is in standby mode thus preventing any remote play sessions. So lets hope this new update fixes these little quirky problems.

Well, why did Sony not just wait to make the 2.00 update complete without errors?

They didnt know it was goign to be errors in the 2.0 update if they did they woudlve waited obviosly.  Just be glad they react so fast and willing to fix the update.  At least your not getting 3rod and have to ship your ps3 and wait up to a month to get it back.

If indeed Sony ran into some problems with 2.0 this is a commendable effort to fix any issues that firmware may have caused some.

well i did, first off games would freeze all the time, my system would lock up, i would reset, then lock up again..themes and backgrounds dont stick, when i put on the nature theme for testing, the theme applies, but next to where it said current theme or whatever it says original meaning when i exit a game or reset my p3 the wave will be there instead of the theme or BG i had JUST applied...this is the first FW to not take on my launch ps3

I wonder if there is a consensus on which model had the most problems with the last firmware. The couple of people I know that had problems both had 60 GB models, but I had no problems at all with my 80 GB model. Another friend of mine just bought a 40 GB and his had no problems either.

It seems there's a problem with the 2.01 update. People are having trouble playing COD4 online. Does anyone know something about this? This sucks if it's true...
