Resident Evil: Outbreak online server to close

Capcom has announced that the online servers for its PlayStation 2 titles, Resident Evil: Outbreak and Monster Hunter will be closing permanently on December 31, 2007.

News comes following the revelation that the external company hosting the server for both games revealed it is pulling out of the PlayStation 2 online business indefinitely. Efforts were made in an attempt to extend the contract or possibly move the hosting elsewhere, but to no avail.

In regards to Resident Evil: Outbreak, this news only effects the North American and Japanese versions of the game, as the PAL release omitted online functionality altogether. Capcom previously closed the online servers for the sequel, File #2, earlier this year.

People need to relize that they should switch over to the PS3! Thats were the good action is taking place. Get to the 3rd gen! Servers arn't going to be up for the ps2 forever. Just like when the Playstation 4 comes out, the ps3 servers wouldn't be up for long! ;-)

#reccodog actually, we are in the 7th generation of gaming. The first PlayStation came out in the fith gen. But you're right: We have moved!! We're in a new time, with new possibilities, so we should just use this, and skip to the PS3!

I still played this game. Not that much tho. I liked the whole survival thing but only have 4 boxes to carry things was horrible and made not play it as much.

Well I think this is one area where the 360 shines. Because Microsoft uses a closed system any game that was playable on line for the original Xbox can still be played to this day. I know the game was not that good but I am sure there are some people who enjoyed it and still play and will be sad to see the severs go off line.

Sad! Not because of the game... but because of Sony's online choices. If one person is playing an original xbox game, I can join in! You get what you pay for... I'll gladly pay the small Live fee!

I suppose I am one of those few who will dearly miss the online play.  I personally hope they eventually bring back the servers.
