PS3 Dead Space to be on par with 360

Dead Space is Electronic Arts’ first foray into the survival-horror genre as the company tries something new besides the slew of movie licensed games and sports titles. In Dead Space, players take control of Isaac Clarke, an engineer who is sent on a search and rescue mission. What he finds out on this venture will be more than he can comprehend on many levels.

With an expected release date of late 2008, Electronic Arts is deep into the development process, ensuring that their first horror experience is a long-lasting and fearful one. It is not like they will have another chance at making a first appearance so Dead Space must be dead on. With the focus being on development, Electronic Arts has came out to confirm that the Xbox 360 is indeed the lead platform of development and that in a month or two, will switch to the PS3. Please do not be alarmed by this and believe that the PS3 version will be technologically inferior to the 360 version, because as Executive Producer, Chad Schofield explains, there is nothing to worry about.

"Right now we're leading and building and doing everything on the 360. Pretty soon in a month or two we will switch and lead on the PS3. That is so that you're not downgrading the PS3 later. We're putting all our engineering muscle into making the PS3 great, and then we'll know that the 360 will be great.

"The plan has to be, and it will be, on parity with the 360. Sony has seen the game so they know that that's what they want out of us. But I can absolutely assure you that the PS3 and the 360 will be the same. We're not going to gimp the 360 because the PS3 can't do it. We're going to optimise the crap out of it and make the PS3 really good, sort of like Burnout."

Remember, Electronic Arts holds the best regards for the PlayStation 3 as earlier this month, EA said the PS3 will outsell the 360 in 2008.

"We're not going to gimp the 360 because the PS3 can't do it. "
Doesn't that seem backwards? He is making it sound as if they can't get too advanced on the 360 version because then the PS3 couldn't keep up. I certainly don't think that is the case! Am I missing something here?

EA why don't you get both PS3 and 360 versions up to par and release them at the same time. I am getting tired of these so called delays.

So they backdoor insult the PS3? " You suck, but we love you." is what they really said. It's all good though. By this time next year the PS3 will have sold more than the 360. The EA will be on its knees blowing Sony and the PS3. In the meentime though I wont be buying anything from them.

First off. In terms of being "On Par" and them being proud of it, they should be doing no less than trying to give every gamer teh best expereince possible, no matter what the platform. Thus the "Oh we're going to make both versions awesome" really shouldn't exist eh? When did developers pride themselves on making games work properly on multiplatform!?
Also, he says it'll be on Par for each system like burnout was... and I'm pretty sure that burnout runs better on the PS3... or atleast thats what I hear from reviews and D.Jaffe.

I also am stunned, by his statement, "We're not going to gimp the 360 version because the PS3 can't do it."

Is he smoking something? Is he M$ blowing the crap out of him? The PS3 is MUCH more powerful than the 360, hands down.

I'm sick of hearing of Developers saying that the PS3 version will be "On par" with the 360 version. I want to hear that the PS3 version will be Superior!

i say just boycott EA thats all, they want to "short change" the PS3 thats fine, ill do the same to them, just not going to reward them for mediocre ports and excuses for that matter.

Here we go again...360 vs PS3.  I'm concerned why 360 to PS3 ports are so poor on the PS3, but the reverse isn't true (ie Assasins Creed)- maybe it's only graphically, with the Xenon being a more advanced GPU than the RSX.  But in game physics on the PS3 should be better (with 4 more functioning cores than 360) and I haven't witnessed this on ported games either.
