Sony details impressive PSN stats

Like any good RPG worth its salt, we have some stats and figures for you concerning the use of the PlayStation Network.

Firstly, there are apparently around 2.8 million users on the PSN, with somewhere in the region of 100,000 new punters joining every week (that’s one every six seconds, fact fans). Roughly half of all PS3 owners have gone online at one time or another and there has been about 46 million downloads.

Impressive stuff. But wait, there’s more! Of the people going online, 92% of them are male, 79% have seen between 18 and 34 winters, 82% of the users have downloaded something, while 65% download something on their very first online venture.

The fact that the entire PSN is free, has built in wireless as well as wired connectivity, and doesn’t shaft non-premium members like the Xbox Live Silver membership, probably counts towards all this activity.

The most popular games? Well FlOw and Tekken 5 are number 1 in the US and UK respectively, while other games like the excellent Warhawk, the lethal Mortal Kombat 2, and Calling all Cars are also popular.

With Home being released sometime this year, the numbers will probably jump again.

Stay tuned.

    Its hardly supprising due to wifi becoming ever more common place. Its just so easy to set up.... plug in the power and HDMI leads, switch on TV and PS3 and it does everything for you. Awesome system!

    Flow is #1 because everyone downloaded it to see what it was all about. It doesn't mean it's #1 in repetitive play.

    Flow sucks. I think people only bought that back around launch because there was nothing else available. The PSN selection is much better now. There's plenty to choose from so you no longer have everybody downloading the same game. That being said, we need more arcade classics. What about Pac Man or Centipede/Millipede?

    @nuttah87

    Yeah PixelJunk is hard. I finished the final level but didn't do all the levels in the game. Its that level with only the 4 trees, I can't do it, it has to be the hardest level and its only medium difficulty but much harder than the hard levels and the last level. The devs defiantly got the balance wrong there.

    @IONIXX  These are PSN downloads.. COD4 is not a PSN download so it does not factor into this..

    For those hating on Flow, it is a relaxing type game that obviously does not appeal to people that need action all the time.. My son still plays it periodically to this day. I'm not suprised about it.

    The 92% male thing suprises me though.. I know this number is from the real data, but I have a feeling this number is a little off in reality.. For example, my wife and I use the PS3, but I'm the only one registered.
