Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed today that the publisher has acquired the rights to the F.E.A.R. name, and has subsequently re-titled its upcoming FPS Project Origin as F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin.
The game focuses on the efforts of a Special Forces squad dispatched to the city of Auburn, where they must combat a variety of supernatural foes as they attempt to put a stop to a vengeful and powerful young girl named Alma.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President of Production and Development, Samantha Ryan, commented, "The name addition builds upon the strong game recognition, which we will extend as we move forward reinventing the F.E.A.R. brand.”
"F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin will continue the legacy of the original F.E.A.R. game with story and combat while adding new twists, gameplay and graphics to expand the players' experience."
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is due for release on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on February 13, 2009.

Wow, from the looks of it most of you don't even know what's going on here. Monolith and Sierra broke up and sierra kept the name f.e.a.r. while monolith kept the game itself. Monolith had a contest to come up with a name for their new game (the sequal to fear that can't be called fear 2) and project origin was the winner. Now monolith owns the name again (somehow) so everythings fine now and fear 2 can now be called fear 2 without people going lawsuit crazy.

I heard the first one suffered from the ps3's "too hard to develop for" situation, hopefully this time around,it won't have the same excuse.
