MK vs. DC Universe U.S. version cut, U.K. gets more gore

The Senior Producer of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Hans Lo, has told PSU in an exclusive interview that the U.K. version of its upcoming fighting game will be far more brutal and bloodier than its U.S. counterpart.
“It’s all down to the ratings system in the two territories”, said Hans. Whilst the U.S. version has acquired a ‘Teen’ rating, which is geared toward those 13 and over, the U.K. version has a ‘16+’ rating, which allows for more graphic violence.
“It’s just what we can get away with for each rating,” said Hans. “A 13 year old is totally different to a 16 year old, so we have a certain responsibility.”
The Joker's fatality is one of the moves that has been edited for the U.S. audience, but Hans also hinted that other character’s moves have also been censored, though he didn’t clarify which ones. At a London event last week, where we witnessed Deathstroke impale Liu Kang through the heart and then deliver a satisfying and merciless head-shot with his gun, we’d guess that he’ll be top of the list for the chop for the U.S. version.
Despite the editing, Hans did stress that his team has pushed the ratings in both territories right to the edge and that fatalities in both version will still be identical.
“There are some differences, but technically the fatalities are the same, it’s just the way that the cameras are angled that differs,” he said.
Sadly, it’s unlikely we’ll find out just how much editing has taken place until the game hits stores later this month.
Stay tuned for the full interview with Hans Lo.

Very Dissappointing to say the least. I understand where hhe is coming from but to know they encountered a block that can easily be overcomed if DC just let them get an M is just dissappointing

I wish they'd stop trying to appeal to the kids. MK is and always has been an adult game. Stick the an M rating and the game will do well. The minute you start cutting things to appease parents who really should be more aware of what their kids are doing, you start screwing things up . I wish parents who take better care of what their kids do and not constantly look for a scapegoat.

psn id: gingo.... it not usual that we see a european release get more gore than the US version so its about time, just wish it was a full mortal kombat title though

Thats too bad...I was actually thinking about getting this.

An M rating has never stopped my 10yr old little brother from getting a game. The percentage of parents that actually look at the ratings are negligible compared to the percentage of adults who won't not buy the game due to censorship. This was a bad decision, but on the other hand - if more games (movies & TV) would reduce their level of violence, MK could still be seen as extreme.

Well Midway canlook forward to the UK version selling the most out of all the other territories. They better hope and pray that they can crack a million (sales) in order to cover their hides for the sheer amount of bread they spent developing this game. Oh well, it's not like I had time to play this game anyway....

So what. It's gameplay, graphics, and story that count. Not gore.

Fighting games are getting worse...I think this is the first time the US version got cut before Australia or the UK. Pathetic, give it an M rating.

a teen rating wow when was the last true MK have anything but a M rating, this game was looking interesting but now im afraid it just lost my attention due to the fact that MK just really isnt the same with the blood and gore, and the brutal fatalities its gonna feel so dumbed down and kidish when you play
