Capcom’s high definition makeover of Super Street Fighter II Turbo on PlayStation Network/Xbox LIVE Arcade has shifted over 250,000 units since its debut late last month, smashing both day one and week one sales records.
The publisher also confirmed that the retro brawler is on track to becoming the highest grossing digital title ever released.
“It would be idiotic and quite frankly, irresponsible to attribute the success of this game to just one person," said the company. "That's like saying Boxer has better kicks than Chun-Li, it just ain't true. We'd like to thank everyone who poured their heart and soul to reviving one of gaming's most beloved franchises.”
“From the producer, Rey Jimenez, to the folks from Backbone and Udon, to the product development, business development and marketing teams at Capcom, HD Remix was a labour of love for everyone involved."
Capcom also gave a hefty pat on the back to the “hardcore” Street Fighter community, adding, "Last but not least, I want to give a big shout out to the hard core Street Fighter community (yes you Shoryuken, Unity, and Key Stoners) who kept this game relevant for the past 15 years and spread the word to the entire gaming industry that Street Fighter is still the "best around"!
Unfortunately, European PS3 owners are having to wait a little longer to get in on the action, with the game’s PAL release still up in the air.
