As a result of on-going pressure from rival consumer event Gamescom, Leipzig Masse announced today that the 2009 Games Convention has been officially cancelled.
"In view of the new situation in terms of competition on the German trade fair market, Leipziger Messe would be dropping the GC - Games Convention from the 2009 calendar," Leipzig Messe said in a statement.
CEO Wolfgang Marzin added: "If the industry is again in search of a platform for console and PC games and hardware with the know-how of the GC - Games Convention, we will immediately be available.”
Replacing the event will be Games Convention Online, which is scheduled to run through July 31 – August 2. In addition, Gamescom will take place for August 19 – 23 in Cologne.

as long as these replacements are the equivalent of gc then this isnt too bad. still sad to see such a large event simply cancelled.

Well trust me im sure this wont be the last to get cancelled but it is disapointing non the less. Gaming is in a tight squeeze latley with everything in the economey shaping the way it has but make no mistake. every thing will get back on track and Gaming will never die as long as true gamers find the way to play.
