Activision has narrowed down a launch date for its upcoming open world extravaganza Prototype, confirming a June 2009 release for the ambitious project.

Word comes via a press release detailing the forthcoming New York Comic Con, in which the publisher states, "Hands-on – fans get their first chance to play the highly anticipated open-world/action thriller, PROTOTYPE, planned for release in June."

Due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360, Prototype pits you in control of Alex Mercer, an individual who possesses the ability to consume his foes, gaining him access to their memories and experiences.

Mercer also has access to a variety of super-human abilities, including superior strength, speed, and dexterity, allowing him to out-run vehicles, run up the sides of buildings and jump extraordinarily long distances.

Doesn't this sort of conflict with the inFAMOUS release? I thought Prototype was supposed to be September-ish. I think that Prototype and inFAMOUS releasing in similar time frames would be bad in general. It could potentially hurt Prototype sales on the PS3, since people will have inFAMOUS as their "super hero" sandbox kind of game at the time. Unless of course they are trying to edge out inFAMOUS and attempting to snag a majority of the sales. That's a risky kind of move though, and you won't be making any developer friends that way.

Both games are along decently similar lines, though far from what we've been shown, I'm personally much more interested in inFAMOUS. Prototype looks nice, but I don't believe they will deliver the same comic-book kind of experience, or the same amount of immersiveness that inFAMOUS will. To add, the studio behind Prototype has not had the best development history ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radical_Entertainment ). They only have really 1 or 2 decent solid titles behind them, and a fair amount of mediocre or poor games. More or less, it seems to me that they will be taking a decent chunk of the game's base from "Hulk: Ultimate Destruction" (one of their previous titles) and applying it here with the "disguise and destroy" aspect.

It seems like it will be fun, and I am interested to see where it will go, but I just don't feel that same "holy crap that's awesome!" kind of feeling as inFAMOUS delivers. Either way, I believe I will get both titles release day, unless Prototype takes a nose-dive. I suppose only time will tell, and hopefully the two don't end up in direct competition for sales.

if prototype type end up coming out the same time as infamous then i feel prototype wont see the light of day on my console. if this game do end up coming out the same time its going to be interesting to see if PS3 owners will pick a port or a game that's built for PS3. mainly if they both score near the same Rating

    Orgasm!  Can't wait.

Prototype isn't supposed to be comic-book like so that argument fails.  He is NOT a superhero.  Just a guy with awesome powers looking to find out his past and is willing to cause a lot of destruction to achieve it.

Taking a "decent chunk" from their Ultimate Destruction is a great thing since it worked so well.  Best superhero game to date and beyond.

Prototype will sell million regarless of how many PS3 owners buy it or not.

    IMO, Prototype>>>>>>>>>>infamous.

I'm going with InFamous on this one. You can hardly go wrong when betting on Sony's 1st party devs. I'll eventually get Prototype, so long as it doesn't suck.

Hulk1215, take it easy, I was stating my OPINION. I never said taking away from Hulk was a bad idea, I was only stating what I see them doing, but it seems you want to turn this into an arguement about Prototype being better than inFAMOUS. It's all good and fine if you want to be stoked for Prototype, but saying my arguement fails all because I vary my choices in likes and dislikes from your own, that's a completely wrong and pointless statement. If you want a different arguement from another angle, then personally I will take a PS3 exclusive from a well known company that has a good past, over a port from a company that has a very mediocre past. But I as I said before, I will most likely get both anyway, as long as Prototype doesn't end up being a bad port or a massively over-hyped mediocre game.

And all of this is pure speculation anyway, since neither you or I have even been able to play the games, and as I originally said, I was simply more interested in inFAMOUS due to what it actually brings to the table and it's concept. It's a little more immersive of a game, and overall looks to have more depth. That's all my personal opinion. You also can not say for sure that Prototype will end up selling millions, since we really don't know what the final product will be. Games of 08 like Dark Sector were speculated to sell mullions, but even combined console sales didn't bring them over the 2 million mark. Dark Sector itself is looking at just over a million combined between PC, PS3 and 360.

Dont get the same wow affect like from infamous ? PUUURLEASE inFamous is just about the most mediocre title the ps3 has to offer, Prototype got a comic book deal by D.C comics, wheres infamous's comic book deal ?, not in sight, ill tell you why, because inFamous is a direct rip from Static shock, the game looks generic at best, Prototype is looking to be game of the year hands down

havent you guys seen the videos of Prototype?!, you can run up buildings and jump like hulk and glide/fly like Sora. It looks sick!  I actually dont know much about infamous besides lightening. but I'll probably be getting both. It'll be a nice change from all the fps and horror games I've been playing... btw VC is cool, Vyse rules.

And prototype releasing near inFamous wont hurt its sells, trust me, more people are buying prototype rather than inFamous, inFamous will take the back seat to prototype, iNFamous hype is somewhat non existant, Prototype is multiplat, ps3 games dont sell that well lol
