Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) president David Reeves recently conducted an interview with UK-based newspaper The Guardian, in which he detailed the company’s goals of turning a profit in the territory by the end of next month.
Reeves disclosed: "we simply have to suffer a little, go down in market share and mind-share. We’re still standing, we’re still profitable and there’s a lot of fight in us."
"My objective is financial – to make a profit in our territory by the end of March, and we will. If we’d cut the price, lost another billion dollars, we might have had a huge Christmas but it would have been followed by a huge loss."
Reeves was keen to point out how significantly the industry has grown as a whole in recent years, tipping his hat to both Microsoft and Nintendo for their part in facilitating that growth: "we should celebrate the industry and how we’ve collectively grown it beyond all recognition,” he said.
Despite what some may think, the console war has done a lot of good for the industry in terms of market growth and this generation has demonstrated that clearly enough. It’s refreshing to see Reeves acknowledge this and hopefully SCEE can turn a profit by the end of March as planned.
