Dragon Quest delay to affect Final Fantasy XIII?

Square Enix has conceded that the delay of DS title Dragon Quest IX may affect the launch of the publisher’s hotly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII in Japan.

"Presently, I cannot say what kind of effect we will experience from moving the Dragon Quest IX launch from March to July. I cannot say there won't be an effect," said CEO and President, Yoichi Wada.

"There is a possibility that Dragon Quest IX delay could affect Final Fantasy XIII,” added Wada.

Final Fantasy XIII is currently pencilled in for a 2009 release in Japan, though western territories won’t be getting their hands on it until some time next year. Let’s hope the project doesn’t experience further delays.

    Can't they just admit that porting it to the 360 is taking longer than they thought?

    seems pretty embarrassing that a DS game stands to delay something as big as the Final Fantasty series

    That's like saying Patapon 2 will cause delays for God Of War 3

    Well sometime nexr year....I bet this thing will end up appearing in the 4Q of 2010. They are taking almost the whole life span of a system making this game. If they continue this way they are going to end up losing tons of money cause they arent selling any of their main games (the ones taking all the money to produce). Serves them right because some of their moves (double edge sword moves) have been done to make more money, money that they will never see if they continue this way.

    On an editor's sidenote - I think you meant "affect" in the title and second Wada quote.  Unless somehow, the delay of Dragon Quest will bring Final Fantasy into existence. ;o)

    Well they got until Dec 2012 to release Versus.

    That's when the Mayan clock ends and Nostrodomus predicted the end of the world as we know it.

    The delay rests with the pinchexclusives360 not DQ.The original release date was 2008 if it wasnt for that pile of cheap plastic.

    They must have some real f**king problems going on at SE. Final fantasy XIII and verses are the main reason I bought a ps3 now delay after delay after delay I'm starting to get pissed off.Which wouldn't be so bad if there was one or two good rpg's, but h3ll no I'm stuck playing shooters btw killzone 2 looks f**king awesome, So all I can do is wait and b*tch.

    @2 lol .... ur 100% right

    its just that Square-Enix trying to make any excuse to delay Final Fantasy XIII until they finish porting it to the X360 ... The next time they'r gonna say " the reason behind delaying Final Fantasy XIII is that i was drunk and slept with my Ex-girlfriend , that caused a major disaster in my marriage."
