Stylized Madden 10 cover breaks tradition, features two players

The latest box art for EA Sports' annual football franchise breaks tradition, and will hopefully cease to break bones. Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu of the Cardinals and Steelers respectively are featured on Madden 10's stylized box.
The distinct design falls in line with other EA Sports box arts this year, like that of the upcoming Fight Night Round 4.
We've placed the box below, but first we want to know: are you for or against this shift in style? Leave your input in the comment section.

The only thing I don't agree with has nothing to do with the cover.
They're asking me to pay $60 for (essentially) their roster update and an annual "online fee" (since Madden 09 will be cut off in August). As much as I love Madden and MLB The Show, MLB 09 is MY LAST ANNUAL SPORTS INSTALLMENT. I will not get another sports game until they switch to making one every 3 or 4 years and just charge small fees for roster updates. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THE WAY THEY DO IT NOW. What really kills me is that there are millions of STUPID idiots that still support this nonsense with their money EVERY YEAR. People are SOOOOO STUPID!

^I agree with all that^
Also, the new cover looks way more interesting, but I think they should stick to the hurting one person tradition. Of course, Polamalu will surely get injured this season, since he always leads with the helmet and gets concussions. He's like Reggie Ray. Fitzy most likely will get hurt, too. -

I think the cover looks great. I like the paint effect.
@O_G_H......it's stupid to you, but a lot of people get tons of playtime out of each installment and so they're all worth $60.
I play NBA 2K and Madden each over 60 hours a year. That's worth it to me.

i dont know if i will buy the game or not but Fitz being on the cover worries me. The last thing my Cards need is to lose their best receiver to sum injury cuz he wants to be a cover boy! Oh how i love superstitions!!!

@5 But it's still essentially the same game! You are playing the same game! If you paid $10 for a roster update of the NFL '10 season on Madden 09 (which I assume you have), wouldn't you still get your 60 hours in? You would still be able play online with your leagues. You would lose NOTHING. How in the world can you defend EA against that logic?

Yeah, I like it too. Seems like I've seen it somewhere before though. Oh, yeah. Street Fighter 4!!

@7.....dude, there's still a good amount of improvements to every game. It's still the same sport, so it's not going to all of the sudden be infinitely cooler the next year. They just try to make the experience more and more authentic ever year. There's a huge difference between NBA 2K7 and 2K9, as well as Madden 07 and Madden 09 (and even more so with Madden 10 most likely).
To the average gamer, all those improvements and updates may only be worth around $30 to $40, but I'm a big sports fan (as well as plenty of other people) and we're willing to pay up. Thus why EA and 2K have no reason to change the model right now It's not rocket science.
If you only want to buy a sports game every 2 or 3 years then no one is stopping you.

Hahaha, Madden drama. How pathetic. Play a real game made by a compaine that cares about creativity and orginality more then money.
Peace.

@ 3
I don't play Madden but you're saying they don't update rosters for free?
"...(since Madden 09 will be cut off in August)" Do you mean they cut off online service for online play? That would be a slap in the face to people who buy these games. I've got PS2 games that still have online servers up.
It's basicaly the same situation with developers who release a game then a week later have $7.99 Map pack release. I saw the add-on for Godfather II released all in 1 week. Over $20 worth of "new game" experience wich should have been released with the game. Screw this whole DLC crap, do it like Criterion and give it away for free.

"lxion"...obviously they have to stop updating the rosters or there would be no point to make the new game, they make improvements to the game each year that the casual gamer cannot notice...they make improvements that football players will notice thats why i pick up my copy every year, i dont understand all the hype with NFL 2K5 because i think madden has been better even though i owned both in 05...so when people bash madden i tend not to listen because thats your opinion and i dont understand it

@3 O_G_H I did the same thing like 4 years ago with NBA 2k. I love it. And every year since like 2K6 I have said Im taking this year off. And as much as I love The Show I always end up saying Ill get it next year. Sad thing is, until every body stops falling for this annual sports purchase thing, we will never see your business model come to life. Unless someone steps it up and takes the risk
