Activision officially announced today that it's working with Bizarre Creations on a new game that it promises will revolutionize the racing genre, Blur. Yes, the game was already unofficially unveiled, but it now has a website and release window -- fall 2009.
“We did our homework and saw a huge opportunity to move beyond traditional racers and create a game completely focused on making racing ‘fun’ again,” said Martyn Chudley, creative director, Bizarre Creations. “Blur delivers a new style of racing experience for all gamers, regardless of their experience, skill or genre preferences. Everything the player does, both in their cars and with their cars, is a dramatic adrenaline rush; it’s a real blast!”
“We know that racing can be fun for everyone, and we are excited to enter this genre with a game that keeps players in the pack and combines fun with intense racing battles,” said Maria Stipp, EVP and GM of Owned Properties, Activision Publishing. “Bizarre Creations is one of the most creative studios in the industry with a rich heritage of top-rated racing games and we are excited to partner with them on Blur, which is set to break the mold of traditional racing games.”
In development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, Blur drops players into heart pumping, electrified racing action with 20 cars on the track as they try to collect power-ups and weapons to use to blast other cars out of the way. Expect more on Blur when we have it.

Thats sick, but there are so many other "revolutionary" racing games coming out.
NFS Shift, Blur, Split Second, and the list goes on, and on.
Oh well, one more game to my collection...hopefully...

ok well this sounds like wipeout with cars for one. and i am sorry but criterion has beat you to a fun racing experience in my opinion. the sp mode is amazing and the online is even better especially with all the content free and paid it is going to be hard to top burnout. at least imo.

Honestly, I've always wanted a a more reality-based racing game with weapons. Not wipout with the futuristic cars, not Mario Kart with the cartoons. Not Twisted Metal with small cars and no real "tracks" (In other words, like MKart, I wanted to actually be racing while I fight). I wanted Gran Turismo with weaponsand Full Auto 2 was poor. Could this be the game I was looking for?

The problem with most racing games is that they're generally all the same. Adding weapons DO NOT necessarily make a game fun. making a racing game FUN is what makes it fun. Fun weapons, fun racing situations, fun controls and ffun environments. If you;re just putting us on another random course with a missle launcher or something there's nothing new or innovative about your game.
That said. Burnout is fun, it has lots of jumps, shortcuts and the ability to drive agressivly and be rewarded for it. Mario kart is fun (or at least it was at one point) because the controls were simple and offered a different experience from most other racing games at the time, after you through 2 dozen immitators into the mix it looses that special ness because you've been there and done it a dozen times before. I see Split second being the next big game because it's actually offering a dynamic experience while driving similar to the way Burnout works but the questions is if it's going to have an enjoyable driving mechanic to go along or if the controls are easy to get the hang of.
With THIS game, all I see are flashy lighting and shiny cars and there isnt a racing game out today that DOESNT have that already so they need to put up or STF up.
