May NPD: PS3 shifts 131k

Sony’s PlayStation 3 sold through 131,000 units in the U.S. last month according to the latest NPD hardware figures, with both PSP and PlayStation 2 shifting north of 100,000 units each during the same period.
Xbox 360 stole the high definition crown for the month, selling 175,000 consoles, while the Wii trumped both Sony and Microsoft’s efforts, shifting 289,500 units of hardware.
Despite this, May proved a decidedly gloomy month for the big three, with hardware sales down a whopping 30 percent year-on-year, while software revenue dropped by 17 percent. Speaking of the slump, NPD analyst Anita Fraser commented:
“The video games industry continues to struggle with difficult comparisons to last year, and this is the first month that industry sales have dipped below $1 billion since August 2007.”
“May is typically one of the lowest revenue-generating months in any given year for the industry in general.”

131k (PS3) Vs 175K (360)? That's a far cry from the 2-to-1 outselling that the 360 usually does and the PS3 is still 2x the price! This is the beginning, mark my words.
I know none of you will believe me because you never do, but a year from now I will point back to this month as the first sign. Speaking of pointing back, MONTHS ago I would type posts with phrases like "...hardcore gamers know where the games are at, the know they want PS3s..." and people laughed. Now MS can barely outsell a console that's double and MORE-THAN-DOUBLE the price? Do you really think Sony believes they need that rumored price drop? It's not coming and the don't need it. It took a while for people to figure it out again, but out beloved hobby has always been about games. And it will always be about games. The games are on PS3 right now.

i mean i got friends with 360's and they'll say oh that game looks good like lbp or they want gt5 or something positive about ps3 like motorstorm would be fun or gta4 night contrast is better or something
but i got one friend who will be like gow3 i dont see why thats so popular
gears 2 looks better than killzone
and unless its a shooter he wont like it like heavy rain"wtf i dont get that game"
or "ratchet and clank ur kidding, u just picked insomniac cus of resistance"
when i picked em for assignment cus of r&c
but some have minds

since when was the 360 high definition,no blu ray and only 720 is not hd,full hd or true hd is 1080p.sorry but ps3 stole the hd crown again this month,in terms of over all sales the wii won.

OIt's be a lot better if this was writen up correctly.
The PS3 sold 131,000 units
The 360 sold 175,000 units
But combine all the Sony plaforms and they only sold 400,000+ units
That means that Sony actually sold more units in total than the Wii and the 360 sales combined but I guess no wants to point this fact out.

Yeah ms classic hater move didn't work, lower your price ultra low (eg 199), then force four competition to do the same, only the comp usually cant afford to do so but they do anyway and have to withdraw for finacial reasons. Only sony did not take the bait lmao. In other new went to my friends house who has a 360 and wooooooow, I had no idea the power brick was that big, that is just crazy, it's half the size of my ps3....................................... Nothin to see here people just a hater doing his job

More spin to justify why the PS3 is in last place and how "this is it" for the big PS3 comeback. I've been hearing that a couple years now. PS3 is third place all the way this generation, that won't change.

@ 17 mr fullalive76 here some more spin for you, lamborghini, ferrari, bugatti, and bently are all dead last compared to ford sales. do you think the owners of those vehicles give a d@mn, um no. They are to busy enjoying the quality (and random hot sex) that comes with the cost of thier vehicle. same with ps3 owners, I could care less as long as keep getting the sweet games that are Uncharted 2, infamous, MLB 09, killzone 2, LBP, rachet andnd clank etc etc. their is a bright side though and that is: you have been hated on by the best later
