Mass Effect 2 is not a Microsoft exclusive, says BioWare

BioWare makes some killer role-playing games, and PC and Xbox 360 owners are likely getting excited about the release of Mass Effect 2. But in an interview with Joystiq, BioWare’s Matt Atwood explained that EA owns the rights to Mass Effect, and therefore the game is not an exclusive for Microsoft.
BioWare has already announced that Dragon Age: Origins will be available on the PS3, along with the PC and Xbox 360. As far as the intellectual property itself, EA owns the rights to Mass Effect and the game could end up on the PlayStation 3.
A statement from Atwood certainly does not allude to the possibility PS3 owners will see Mass Effect 2. “We’ve only announced 360 and PC,” Atwood said. “At this point we’re really focused on those platforms.”
But given the fact that EA holds the rights to the game, and that BioWare is planning on releasing a PS3 version of Dragon Age: Origins, there is a chance Mass Effect 2 could make its way to Sony’s console.
Do you think we could see Mass Effect 2 on the PS3?

Wow, Some are not going to be happy with hearing this news. I was told by quite a few people that the IP was owned by MS.
- 2:13pm EDT - July 8th, 2009
Last I checked, MS owned the IP.

Either way I'm getting it on my Xbox 360, seeing as you get some sort of bonus for having the previous games save file etc,... Good news though.

Good news, hopefully it does come to ps3. Everyone deserves to play such a brilliant game. But yeah, it would make sense to have Mass 1 come out first.
Who knows though, it may be being ported as we speak!

Yes! Bring it!

Where is the game IP database so I could see who owns which IP...
But as long as I don't know where to look, I think I must trust what the game creator says..

@2 where can I check that as well?

that was a shocker, it would be nice for that game to come to the ps3. i for one would purchase this game.

We could, and let us pray to EA that they look into their wallets rather than Microsoft's contracts.

It would be sweet if they released the first ME on PS3 so that the character carry over feature would work like they are boasting on the 360. But I will be buying it on 360 regardless just because I don't want to have to buy both games on ps3 and beat the first one just to have my character info carry over. I beat ME once and it was awesome but I don't particularly feel like doing it again. Maybe if there were tons of added features.

I really could care less cause i am going to get it for my PC no matter what so i can transfer my ME1 saves. I guess it would be a good thing if it came to the PS3 so everyone can enjoy this amazing game.

@2 you sir are an idiot didn't you read the articale EA owns the ip meaning that it gives hope for
mass effect ps3 port with a comment like that it's obvious that you own a 360
- 3:37pm EDT - July 8th, 2009
What's with the first comments? No, MS doesn't own the IP. Bioware did and not EA does cuz EA bought up bioware. Microsoft only published the game.
PS3 owners should get their hands on Mass Effect! The first is amazing. I will be buying the 360 version so I can transfer my save file over to the ME2, but I still believe that PS3 owners should be let in on this great franchise.

any news like this is good news

Unless they release the first and second game, I wouldn't bother playing them on anything besides an Xbox. Unless the ps3 is all you own.
- 4:19pm EDT - July 8th, 2009
It's free money. If they can, they will. Period.
- 4:28pm EDT - July 8th, 2009
<<<<< never played Mass Effect 1.
- 4:29pm EDT - July 8th, 2009
I think EA will give us Mass Effect 2 on the PS3, and will give us a great experience. Since it was originally an Xbox 360 title, i think the only advantage to the 360 version will be the continuity of the first save game file of the first game.
EA is a multiplatform publisher, I think we should get Mass Effect 2. With additional content that takes use of the 50GB blu ray disc. Think about how expansive and huge Mass Effect would be if Mass Effect was MADE for the PS3.

I don't give rat's furry behind if I can carry over a save or not, if it comes out on PS3, then I'm getting it for PS3, baby!!!
