The Canadian government is pumping money into its country’s videogame industry. One such venture, Ubisoft Toronto, will have a famous studio head. The company announced today that Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond will head the Ubisoft Toronto studio.
She will report to Ubisoft Toronto and Montreal CEO Yannis Mallet, and she will oversee day-to-day operation of the studio. She first joined Ubisoft in 2004 as producer of Assassin’s Creed and is working as executive producer of the game’s sequel.
“I’m excited to have Jade managing our Toronto studio,” said Mallat. “With more than 12 years of experience in the video game industry, Jade’s knowledge and leadership as an industry veteran are major assets in building the Toronto studio and expanding Ubisoft’s presence in Canada.”
“I’m honored to be part of Ubisoft’s expansion into Toronto,” said Raymond. “I’m looking forward to building a strong and talented team to work on triple-A games and new intellectual properties.”
With what will surely boost the city’s economy, Ubisoft Toronto will create some 800 new development jobs over the next 10 years. Look for the studio to open by the end of the year.
