UK PS3 sales up 999%, outsells Xbox 360 by 3:1

Sales of the PlayStation 3 have increased by over a whopping 999 percent in the UK following the release of the Slim edition of Sony’s flagship console, reports Gamesindustry.biz
"The uplift on week 36 on week 35 is plus 999 per cent," said Chart Track’s Dorian Bloch. “We don't give out the hardware numbers, but never-the-less it's a very large increase." PS3 Slim launch in the region last Tuesday for the reduced price of £249 GBP, while the original model received a price cut back in August following Sony’s GamesCom press conference.
By comparison, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 also enjoyed a boost in sales of approximately 43 percent on the back of the Elite model dropping to £199 GBP last week. However, MCV notes that Sony's machine still managed to outsell the 360 by a ratio of 3:1 over the past week.
Both companies will be scrapping it out alongside Nintendo for the Christmas crown over the next few months, so be sure to stick around for more developments.

For an extra £50 its a bit of a no-brainer really. With all the extra things the PS3 can do that the 360 can't including its Blu-Ray disc playing advantage, I know which console I'd go for! PS3 All The Way!!! ;)

Not bad,it seems that many people were waiting for a cheaper PS3 along with a more compact one.I will buy one too at some point.

got my ps3 slim first day......and i would like to add that madden 10 froze on me 4 times already! and i had to unplug the system from the wall because it froze and wouldnt do anything not even turn off? I hope this wont be a problem for sony, i got my 2 year warranty.

LOL...how could it not be up that much from the week before when everyone elected to NOT buy a PS3 because the slim was coming, and Sony had let the inventory dry up. Too funny. Nobody buys a PS3 the week before anticipating the Slim, and then they sell the slims. I am surprised the sales were not up 999%.

You need to stop being such a 360 fanboy.
At EVERY turn you always defend 360 or make stupid potshots at the PS3. No matter what it does or how good it does it you still are here being all pro 360.
Stop being so butt hurt son.. The market shift to Sony has been in the process and now this continues to accentuate that.
I LOVE how 360 fanboys troll this site, meanwhile it has been 1.5 years since the last time I went to Teamxbox.com and similar sites when I used to be Pro 360. Now that I am done with 360 (since it RROD on me Q4 of last year with that dam* fabled 3 year warranty expired) I don't bother pro 360 sites.. why stay? so I can troll? no thanks.
I wish 360 fanboys would do the same for PS3 sites.
Even though the sales were lower the thing outsold 360 3:1 even though the 360 had a %43 sales increase.
Those 999% is a bigger # than you think it to be.

Your right gunteng thats why I usually ignore percentages because they dont mean much when the actual sold consoles are unknown.
Microsoft and nintendo could say the same thing.

999% equates to approximately sales multiplying 10-fold. This could therefore mean Sony's PS3 sales were only in double figures the week prior to the Slim's launch, with the launch itself resulting in a rise of sales into the thousands. I'm assuming there was lull in the market prior to the Slim's release as people were aware of the said console's announcement, therefore resulting in a lack of PS3 sales. It's not surprising that when the Slim finally was launched the PS3 sales increased by 999% - although selling 10-times more PS3's than the week before is not such a big achievement when this "Slim-anticipation lull" is in effect. This isn't too amazing to me, nor is it surprising. It's just the initial shock of seing such an insanely high percentage that took me by surprise.
Regardless, this is a landmark achievement for any console, and here's hoping the PS3 continues it's great sales trend in the years to come!

dont be stupid people the xbox was already selling good maybe 2:1 ouselling the pse then 999% rose up and that flipped around AND increased for the ps3 but it also did for the xbox but it was already selling good, get it?

You're lot are hilarious trying to slag each other's platforms and arguing whether PS2 is better than Xbox 360, etc. The reality is that I own both consoles and believe they are both fantastic pieces of technology with advantages and disadvantages. I must admit that I only recently acquired a PS3 (Slim model) and have been very impressed with the way it's built and some of the exclusive games such as Resistance and Uncharted, these games are both incredible and can't wait to play Resistance 2 and Killzone 2. However I have pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox 360 platform as Xbox Live and the Gamerscore system is superb when playing online. I also think the Xbox 360 controller is slightly more comfortable than on the PS3. However now I have tasted both I wouldn't really stick to just one platform.

Makes perfect sense. For an extra £50 your get built in wireless, blueray and overall better experience. With the 360 you have to buy an adapter (most times) and pay extra for online play, so it probably ends up the same price for both consoles tbh.
I think the PS3 Slim will definitely cause Microsoft to speed up the productiong of their next console tbh.
