Valve still undecided on PS3 development

Valve Corporation still hasn’t made up its mind on whether or not to pursue development on Sony’s PlayStation 3, though admits the firm will likely do something later down the line.

"Before we do anything on the PS3 we need to be able to support it in the right way,” said Valve’s Chet Faliszek, during a chinwag with the folks at EDGE magazine. "But we’ll look at it, and I'm sure down the road we'll do it."

Valve has remained fairly critical of Sony’s black box in recent years; though last summer company bigwig Gabe Newell offered his apologies to PS3 owners over the firm’s shoddy treatment of the PS3 port of The Orange Box.

Episode 3 and/or Portal 2 would be a great start towards making PS3 fans happy.

Undecided??  I thought Valve said they'd never make games on the PS3.

Spartan R7, when have they ever done a PS3 game? That they worked, and screwed up, the Orange Box is just a rumor.

I wonder how is it that even small development teams as Mercury Steam (spanish team behind Castlevania) can do multiplattform aiming for plattform parity and "mighty" Valve just cant and struggles for years because of that ...

PD:Valve arent mighty but in Gabe Newell overweight ,thats what I am saying...even very small development teams can do what they cant.

     -.-

Laziness has kept them from it up till now; they really don't have a good reason to skip the PS3 (especially now that it's pulling ahead in sales worldwide). Somehow, I doubt that they will start developing for the PS3 soon. Let's hope I'm wrong.

    @iberianpower

True words fellow gamer. There are tiny development teams that are making outstanding games on both systems and pulling off identical efforts on PS3 and the 360 but Valve can't? And I thought this was a company that revolutionised the FPS genre oh so many years ago with Half-Life...

What I honestly think happened was they got a lucky break with their engine and just are sitting back now riding the waze of their previous acheivements.

I love Valve's games on PC (HL2...mmm....) but if they're so against developing on PS3, really don't bother. I'd rather not get crap ports from a developer who doesn't care enough to familiarize itself with the system. Stick to PC games, and when I finally upgrade my PC I'll see you then Valve.

dont care for valve or their games. I think they talk to much crap, and their games are practically average to my personal liking. Half Life days ended with me on PC.

I don't think you will find much succes either way Valve. You have said too much & done too little to date.....I doubt many would care tbh.

yay, the PSU background has been changed!

I'm not holding my breath, but an Orange Box 2 from Valve would be nice.

So they will sink or swim on ps3 if they finally make up their minds. Some will be happy and others won't care, what's so different about them than any other game developer in that sense. I think they will only do well if their next game that comes to ps3 is new to both it and the 360. Why on earth should anyone buy L4D of all games at this point? And L4d2 on the other hand, it really isn't worth buying either. Just download it from steam.

Also Valve, possibly microsoft's fault, has been ignoring 360 fans for a long time when it comes to updating their games on the 360. They can anytime on PC but the 360 has not had an update for TF (needs one) in a long time, L4d needs one and it's bugged-to-death dlc CC needs help badly,  L4D2 needed one too the last time I knew. I heard many games have been screwed by the 360 arcade models (360's with no HDD) but why would valve update the ps3 before it updates 360 games? They wouldn't. My point is, they have gone down in PR over the last year. The PC and 360 can keep their garbage.

Sadly I think Valve have kind of lost the plot over the last few years. They were once a very accomplished developer but they've slowly been overtaken by quite a few teams most notably Crytek in the game Engine department and Isuspect ID will be back bang on form with Rage when that's released (looks gorgeous). So what have Valve done lately of note? Half life 2 was released 6 years ago now wasn't it? In that time they've released some episodes for that game a mod in the shape of portal, Team Fortress 2 and the L4D games. Don't get me wrong L4D was fun but like most 360 games online now I just don't bother with it, my Live Gold membership lapsed about 8 months ago now and I never renewed because of foul mouthed spoilt little brats who think they're Mike Tyson when they're on a mic. lol. L4D2 was a cheap update offering nothing new a was shoddy lazy game development but you can't blame them because plenty of mugs rushed out to splash their cash on the product... minimum effort maximum yield its a good business model but not one thats going to endear them to the gaming community. As for their views towards the PS3, lets be honest here its been shoddy, no representative of any corporation should run their collective mouths off quite like Gabe Newell has about Sony, the PS3 and PS3 owners. If Sony's momentum continues they'll be regretting massively not investing R&D time into the platform, but for 6 years now I'll say Valve haven't done anything to make PS3 fans lament that decision either.

I don't want their games on PS3. They are a bunch of babies... They cry about the architecture being so different than PC like no other dev's had to go through the learning curve. I love HL2 and the episodes and Portal, but their PR is terrible and I don't think I'll be supporting them anymore because of this.

let's sing to valve, a little known queen song:

    WEEEEEEE don't
    WEEEEEEE don't
    NEED YOU

    WEEEEEEE don't
    WEEEEEEE don't
    NEED YOU

@1:  i couildn't agree more.  i'm not against little kids playing,  but when all they do is run their mouths and be obnoxious,  it really ruins the game.  yeah,  they should be sorry.  as they see now that the PS3 is far superior to the white box (it is white because it is dead!).
