Game of the Month: May 2010

Blimey, is it that time already? June’s kicked off, E3’s just around the corner, and we’re almost half way through yet another year of completely knackering our fingers and thumbs, courtesy of copious amounts of quality gaming time.
Now that May has wrapped, it’s time once again to shuffle through the brilliant, the mediocre and the absolute drivel of game releases in an effort to award one lucky title our prestigious Game of the Month accolade. Truth be told, this hasn’t been an easy choice, given that we’ve had yet another quality month on our hands, ranging from shooting bandits and plundering the Wild West in Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption, vanquishing alien scum in Capcom’s Lost Planet 2 or grinding to our hearts content in EA’s Skate 3.
Still, our final choice shouldn’t come as a surprise – Red Dead Redemption takes the crown by a comfortable margin. Here, Rockstar has crafted one of the most engaging and visually striking offerings this generation, fusing intense gunplay with heaps of exploration, a compelling narrative and comprehensive multiplayer modes. Those of you who have read our review should have an idea of what to expect, but for those who haven’t, here’s a snippet below:
“Those thinking that this is nothing more than Grand Theft Auto IV in the West will be surprised to see that, in many ways, Rockstar has outdone its last major sandbox game. Red Dead Redemption is arguably one of the best games we’ve played in a long, long time. Sure, it has some minor problems, but overall its story and immense world offer up both engaging and compelling gameplay that any self-respecting gamer needs to experience.”

Similarly, here’s what some of our readers had to say on the game:
AhhYuKen: “Great game so far, was on the fence about it but glad I got it.”
Duffs202: “finally got it! its amazing its a must buy! i was on the fence with this game since i own gta 4 but this is so much better, anyone deciding wether to buy or not should definetly buy it!”
Canyon168: “Bought it last week and haven't stopped playing it. Just been doing side quests, breaking horses, hunting animals, looking for wild flowers. Very fun.”
Don’t agree with our choice? Be sure to let us know your personal Game of the Month in the comments section below.

gonna get this soon, I tried earlier but it was outta stock so I got MNR, which is also great. I enjoyed GTAIV, not as much as previous titles but still a good game. Quick question: how is the shooting mechanism in this game? I always found it very hit and miss in the GTA series (pun intended).
