Sega hammers-out details on Thor: The Video Game

Sega and Marvel announced today Thor: The Video Game, scheduled for release in 2011 on just about every platform. The third-person adventure game is being created with Matt Fraction, the award-winning writer and lead Thor comic book author.

The game sends Thor through battles in numerous worlds of Norse mythology, spanning realms ranging from fire and ice to planets inhabited by frost giants and trolls. Thor is on a mission to save Asgard, the capital city of the Norse Gods. Enemies are lifted directly from the comics, including Ymir, Ulik, and Surtur. You’ll get to wield Thor’s iconic Mjölnir to fight enemies on an immense scale.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version feature cinematic, third-person action with combos and epic boss battles. The PSP version, like the DS version, features a unique stylized comic book approach, in a 2D side-scrolling adventure. The game will also be available on Wii.

“We are proud to be bringing Marvel’s Thor to his first solo video game adventure,” commented Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. “Thor: The Video Game will finally bring the immense power of this iconic hero to lifelong fans, and introduce the God of Thunder to a whole new audience as a true Marvel Super Hero.”

Hmm, same time as the new Thor movie is released. Is this just going to be a crappy release to milk more money off the movie franchise?

It's a movie-game guys, don't get excited. There won't be another Arkham Asylum-kind of surpriser in a decade.
