THQ's Danny Bilson didn't feel the Heavy Rain love

Last year’s PlayStation 3-exclusive Heavy Rain resonated with millions of gamers worldwide thanks to its compelling, nail-biting narrative and lush visuals, though one person who hasn’t been so quick to heap praise on the Quantic Dream thriller is THQ’s Danny Bilson.
Specifically, the outspoken core games boss admitted he “stopped playing” the game, with some of Heavy Rain’s introductory tasks – such as hero Ethan Mars brushing his teeth and rustling up some breakfast – not exactly resonating with the self-described ‘avid-gamer.’
“I stopped playing,” Bilson told EDGE (via TSA). “I couldn’t get past ‘brush your teeth, make breakfast’.”
“I just thought, I’m not digging this, I don’t want to brush my teeth in a game.”
“I probably should play it, I probably have some sort of responsibility to play it. But I’m still a gamer and if I’m not getting it, I’m not going to drive hard through it.”
Having established Heavy Rain isn't his cup of tea, Bilson offered some insight as to what games he did enjoy. The THQ bigwig labelled Mass Effect 1 & 2 as having “the best story-delivery system,” and said Red Dead Redemption is “my favourite game of the year.”

i love that you guys defend the game from this guy. I have to be honest, I feel the exact same as he does. The game wasnt a game it was an "experience", even the publishers spin it that way.
I love game and gave this one a true 2-3 hours before I realized I was not having any fun, and would not be having fun anytime soon while playing it.
I get it, Art, feeling, emotion, blah blah blah, but I play games to escape and have fun. If I wanted real life problems I'd stay at work or go visit my In-laws hahahah.
ill take GOW3 or Uncharted2 over this drama stuff any day.

Clearly the game isn't for everyone. juanvaldez above me at least gave it a go and decided that he didn't enjoy it and it wasn't his thing, but this guy played all of four of five minutes. If he can't be ar5ed to give the game a decent go then why should we be ar5ed to give his opinion of it a shot?
Again, if it isn't your bag it isn't your bag, but at least give it more than a few minutes. Don't like drama and true emotion from a game? Don't feel bad, there are other games out there without it and plenty of avenues in life to get it.

I gotta admit, I felt the exact same way the first five minutes into the game. It bored me. But after about an hour or two, I was so into the story that I had trouble stopping. I started the game on a wednesday at 3 PM and I finished it the next day on 5 PM. I didn't took a lot of breaks because the story is one of the most enticing I have ever seen and I was glad to go and replay the game for the Nerd, Perfect Crime and All Endings trophies for the Platinum. I personally enjoyed the initial run (the most important run because of its story of course) of this game more than I enjoy most games. With the first five minutes, you can't make up your opinion on a game. I could've done the same for this game and I could've done the same for Assassin's Creed 1. I was bored out of my mind during the tutorial but I decided to give the first hour or two after it a chance and I just didn't like the game. If you had done at least that, then I would understand but now you're just an idiot >_>
