PSN to undergo maintenance soon, PS Store won't return today

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has confirmed that PlayStation Network is scheduled to undergo ‘Essential Network Maintenance’ today from 4PM BST until midnight.
The platform holder said that if you sign into the service before 4PM, you’ll be able to continue online gaming. However, sign-in after that time, and you’ll be transferred to the maintenance notification page.
In addition, Sony also confirmed that, contrary to rumors, the PlayStation Store will not be returning today. Instead, the firm said it’s hoping to have the service restored by the end of this month.
"The latest information I have on PlayStation Store is that we are aiming to have it live by the end of May. Contrary to popular rumours, it will not be reopening tomorrow but we will let you know here as soon as the date is confirmed," commented SCEE’s James Gallagher.
It was previously thought that the PS Store would return today, May 24, after a leaked internal memo last week detailed Sony’s plans for rolling out its backlog of content updates over the next fortnight.

Sony: FAIL.
Sony, think you "might" have everything up and running again by the end of the year?
'We are sorry at Sony but fully expect the PS Store to be back up and functioning by mid 2012" will probably be their end of 2011 statement and 417th missed date.
To err is human, to really foul things up requires Sony Online Entertainment.

I'll hold out hope till May 31st like Sony estimated. I'll trust the blog more than a leak, the blog won't be wrong till that date. What is the difference between a leak and a source?... The source uses his name when he lies to your face.

Something I've noticed from all this is all people care about is if the situation affects them personally (The phrase "I don't care about Japan" from one particular person here comes to mind). We've remained disconnected in Japan and in other Asian countries ever since it first went down as the consumers here continue to get crapped on by whoever's pulling the strings in this situation. Seeing these comments for a day of "inconvenience" and thinking back to when it was down altogether everywhere (and when there was a rumor it was back up in Japan first) makes me sick. I'd been trying to find out about what's been going on (on this and other English sites because information is updated more quickly), but if I have to choose between more whining and going out to enjoying my life then I choose the latter. I think I can consider my curiousity in the gaming community fully satisfied. Now I remember why I wasn't interested in the first place. Reputation earned. Deuces! You guys can have it.
