Director David O. Russell has reportedly abandoned plans to helm the movie adaptation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
According to Variety, Russell exited the project due to ‘creative differences,’ though the split was said to be amicable.
Russell had been attached to the project for some time and remained consistently enthusiastic about his plans for Nathan Drake’s silver-screen debut. He did, however, cause much controversy among fans after his script apparently deviated heavily from the source material.
In terms of casting, it was reported on numerous occasions that Mark Wahlberg would assume the role of cheeky chappie Drake, while Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci were hotly tipped to play members of the adventurer’s family.
Despite the setback, Variety claims that Sony is still keen to get the project off the ground. Stay tuned.
