The chaps at CVG are reporting that PlayStation Vita won’t be released in the UK until early 2012.
According to a senior retail source close to Sony, the new handheld is being prepped for a January or February launch in the territory, though it is believed Vita will still hit the U.S. this side of Christmas.
The source commented: "Sony knows it's effectively gifting the festive handheld market to 3DS - but is still really confident of a success.”
"The overall strategy is that they want the hardcore to buy first and then spread the word. It's a blow for us, but they think they can still do that in the UK without the Christmas sales boost."
When contacted for comment on the matter, a representative for Sony Computer Entertainment UK stated, “We haven't announced a release date for Vita yet."
Earlier this week, a listing for PlayStation Vita appeared on UK retailer ShopTo, claiming the handheld would be released in early November.
Stay tuned.

I would see getting the device to the NA region a little more important than UK. NA gamers don't seem to be the patient kind and will flip ape sh1t if forced to watch other regions get the device in the fall while they wait for it to hit the following year. The UK however... seems accustomed to waiting, as they get screwed around a lot :P
In fact, from the get go I assumed at least Japan would get the device fall and NA was a toss up while UK was deff going to wait...

once again, Japan only think of themselves, the only release date they care for is the one for Japan, they don't even understand they could lose supporters and money as long as the Japanese are satisfied

There are several problems with being able to hit Europe before the end of the year.
1.Supply, Sony doesnt even know if they'll have enough Vitas for the island of Japan let alone North America.
2.European games have to be translated into several extra languages which means it'll take longer to get the games to market.
3.Making deals with Mobile providers takes time. AT&T may have a monopoly on the U.S. making the choice (sadly) obvious but there make be more talks to do in the EU territories. -

My biggest concern with PSVita is that it will have no removable battery (embedded battery since PS Vita is equipped with a rear touch pad) so no battery backups will be possible. That means it will most likely spend most of its time recharging since somesource say that PSVita's battery life will be about the same as PSP3000 4-6 Hours (which in fact really means 3 or 4 hours).
Couldn't really take the PSP anywhere without a battery backup since gameplay lasts about 4 hours so i wonder how this will turn out and also consider that fact that batteries start to loose their power output life after a while too.
It also has no video output so forget about playing games on another monitor.
PSVita looks cool but the issue with the battery life doesn't seem to have improved much.

@10 L.O.L - Yeah - being a fanboy is all about not caring when something is released eh? You moron. And in case you are yelling fanboy about me saying the 3DS is a P.O.S. Let me just clarify my stance.
The 3DS is a piece of sh!+. It has a games library littered with remakes, it has a tiny screen with a 3D effect that looks like paper cut out time. It has one analogue stick, the battery life is terrible and the visuals are hardly anything worth getting drooly over. It also looks like a chubby slab of plastic.
But of course, that\\\'s ok, because it is Nintendo right? Oh buts it will have teh Mario on it in teh 3D! You will not need teh dual analogues cos it\\\'s a nintendo and teh stylus will be fine on teh single touch resistive screen! The good games will come for it and who needs to play a game for more than 3.5 hours right?
Piece of sh!+ Simple.
