Insomniac says it 'can keep pushing PS3'

Insomniac Games reckons the PlayStation 3 still has plenty of untapped potential left in it, and as such believes the developer can ‘keep pushing’ the console.
Speaking to the chaps at CVG, Resistance 3 senior designer Cameron Christian and writer Jon Paquette said Insomniac is finding new ways to squeeze more out of Sony’s black beast on a yearly basis.
"I think it does [have more to give]," said Christian. "Each year we're finding better ways to optimise and different ways to program for it. Being more efficient, figuring out new tricks to get better looking graphics... we can keep pushing that I think.”
"We can focus more on content at the moment because we understand the hardware. I think that's big."
Meanwhile, Paquette said he feels there’s still plenty of life left in Sony’s flagship console, which he notes is a good thing as mastering the intricacies of a specific platform can be difficult if there’s a high console rollover.
"You remember when the PS2 first came out? The games that came out at the end of that cycle, when people got better at using the hardware, improved. So I think there's still a lot of life in there. I feel like if there's too much console rollover then it makes it harder for us to become experts at the console and take full advantage of it,” he said.
"From a development standpoint when you create the tools to actually create the game - that's a lot of work. But once you get a game or two done with those tools, they start to mature and become easier to use. It's then easier to iterate on the content, which is key to quality.”
"The more iteration you get, the more quality you get and with new technology you get less time for iteration."

Gear of war 3 will push the 360 to max and i doubt it will look as good as uncharted 2 let alone 3(insominia and Naughry Dog have both said they could get even more out of PS3). The Xbox 360 has had it day whereas the PS3 has a host of exclusive games coming up. Plus now there are 3 games out/confirmed to have steam and cross play plus one that has mouse and keyboard support and early 2012 vita cloud support. On top of the price cut bye bye Xbox

Ok, I do have faith in Insomniac and they make great games. I was disappointed however with Resistance 2. The multiplayer was good but wasn't great. While player 1 was upgradeable it was also saveable, player 2 was also upgradeable but unsaveable and it was sad for my wife and I. I believe we would have player it for many many more hours if it wasn't for that. Companies are forgeting that consumers still love to sit at home with other family members and friends and play these games together, splitscreen isn't the worst thing in the world; in fact we favor it in my house. We also have 2 PS3s in our house but then you have to have multiple copies of the game. I hope that Borderlands 2 perfects this with multiplayers at home with online players.

I love the ps3. its my favorite console in history! But I honestly cant stand these articles of whoever claiming the system can still be pushed to its limits. The technology is far outdated to be serious. Im not a pc gamer by any means but look at how crazy the specs on a pc can be compared to consoles. If you really want to be a graphics whore, have a game max out pc specs. Go on and say Crysis and such but thats a different topic all together in what and how its loaded into the ram. Im sure the ps3 cell processor is the cause for these headlines even without mention so sometimes but still, that is outdated. Graphics are cool, gameplay is cooler and a game with both is the bestest ;p
