Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 3 not dead, coming 2012

Last year at PAX East 2010,  Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik revealed that Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 3 had been cancelled. Hothead had announced that they dropped the project due to time constraints, and that the studio was about to take on DeathSpank. It was decided that Penny Arcade Adventures was to be placed on hold indefinitely.

However, it has been today announced at PAX Prime that Zeboyd Games would be taking up the project, and seeing that the third installment in the On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness series comes to fruition.

Episode 3 will be available in 2012, and brings with it many changes to the archetype of the previous two games. Sporting all new 16-bit graphics, side-vew combat, and new music, the next addition to Penny Arcade Adventures looks to separate itself from the first two episodes. Series protagonists Gabe and Tycho have been confirmed as playable characters.

Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 3 will be released in 2012, and while it is unknown what platforms the downloadable RPG will appear on, developer Zeboyd has stated that they are aiming to release their upcoming game on as many platforms as they can.

The games are pretty damn weird. If it weren't for the faces of Gabe and Tycho I wouldn't be able to recognise the games as a Penny Arcade game.

The game doesn't take place today, but judging by the clothes it could be a hundred years old.

The story isn't about video games at all and the characters don't remind you of their comic counterparts.

The camera angles and controls were also pretty weird. So overall a pretty bad game.

The third one here apparently has 16-bit graphics. Which sounds pretty sweet. So maybe there is some hope left for this one.

Penny Arcade has a well esablished tradition of doing stories outside of the usual canon. Twisp & Catsby, Cardboard tube Samurai, etc. This is their Steampunk adventure which has been a pretty decent episodic RPG especially withthe ability to create your own avatar to fight along side of them, I hope this featuer carries over into the new game too.
