UPDATE:

Fans of the Bloody Roar fighting franchise will be disappointed to learn that the announcement of Bloody Roar 5 yesterday appears to be a hoax.

The source of the original news was an unofficial Twitter account, @HudsonSoftLtd, that has since posted an ‘image’ from the new game which makes it blatant that we have all been duped.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

Hudson Soft has made the announcement that the long-dormant fighting franchise, Bloody Roar, will return to current-gen consoles.

The Japanese publisher made the revelation via Twitter, commenting, "New Bloody Roar sequel, is in production! we'll post more soon!"

With the hashtag ‘Bloody Roar 2012 project,' the Tweet insinuates that the latest instalment, simply referred to as Bloody Roar 5, will see a 2012 release.

The Bloody Roar series, which was iconic for its playable characters that can morph into animals in mid-fight, was originally an arcade release back in 1997, before it was ported to PlayStation by Hudson. It was followed by a sequel in 1999. Two follow-ups were released on the PlayStation 2 – Bloody Roar 3 in 2000, and Bloody Roar 4 in 2003.

Hudson is expected to release full details of the game soon. PlayStation Universe will keep you posted.

I would love to see this game come back again! But unfortunately, I've read this article on ign and they updated it saying it was a hoax.

FYI - this was a hoax.  IGN claimed to be "duped" by this as well.  There is no bloody roar game coming out in 2012

Part of me thinks it is just a scheme to see what the reaction of the public would be to the announcement. If enough enthusiasm was shown they'd probably make it a reality or some stupid sh&^ like that. Meh kinda over the corporate antics. And if that's not it then why even bother trolling us? Stupid...
