Silent Hill: Downpour producer Devin Shatsky has claimed that the upcoming psychological horror title will share more in common with Silent Hill 2 than recent entries.
Speaking in a recent interview on the U.S. PlayStation Blog, Shatsky indicated that Downpour will take a less action-oriented route in comparison to the likes of Silent Hill: Homecoming.
Quizzed as to which Silent Hill game Downpour most compares to, Shatsky replied, "Definitely Silent Hill 2," adding, "Downpour has a standalone story that's not tied to any other Silent Hill game, so it's taking the broader concept back to its roots.”
"Silent Hill 2 was one of the big fan favorites in the series, so we took elements that were appealing in that game and integrated them here."
The producer added that Downpour’s protagonist, Murphy Pendleton, is more of an everyday kind of bloke, and as such shares many similarities with Silent Hill 2 hero James Sunderland.
"In Homecoming, you played a somewhat more badass character. But in Downpour, Murphy is more of an everyman. He's far from a tough guy. He can fend for himself, but overall he veers much closer to the protagonist of Silent Hill 2. You'll want to run from enemies more than usual: you may be able to stand toe-to-toe with one enemy, but if you're outnumbered, the best strategy is to run."
Silent Hill: Downpour is due out in Q1 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
