Assassin's Creed 3: why killing animals will reap great rewards

Hunting animals is going to be an excellent way to earn some cash in Assassin’s Creed 3, but there’s going to be more to killing wildlife than first meets the eye. We believe that hunting down a certain type of beast could be even more valuable for the clever hunter than Ubisoft is first letting on.
During a gameplay demo at an Assassin’s Creed 3 event in London journalists we witnessed the game’s new hero, Connor, slaughter a deer and a great bear and were told that their fur can be sold. However, IP development Director IP Tommy Francois also said that there would be a “variety of rewards” for killing animals, suggesting that some creatures may yield much more than just fur. Indeed, the development team deliberately refrained from skinning a giant bear to hide what rewards would be received.
It seems very feasible that we’ll be able to collect other creature parts when we kill, just like the Native Americans did, including horns, teeth and claws. These may just be extra items to sell on, but it’s more likely that they’ll be used for other means, probably to craft additional items.

The Native American tribe that Connor was born into didn't just use the fur for clothing, but were also known to use animal blood for painting, the hide for robes and bags, the hair for rope (perhaps this is how we make more rope darts - one of the confirmed weapons in the game?) The skin of the hind leg was used to make boots, bones were used to make tools and medicine, and the tallow used for healing wounds.
Ubisoft has made much of the fact that it plans to make this latest iteration in the series as historically accurate as possible and as Connor hails from the Mohawk tribe it makes perfect sense that he’ll make good use of all body parts like his ancestors have taught him. Killing animals and harvesting their parts could just end up being as much fun as the main game - as could hunting down the more rare creatures.
