Analyst: Grand Theft Auto V to sell 14m at launch

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia has predicted that Grand Theft Auto V will move 14 million units at launch.

The figure puts the hotly-anticipated crime romp significantly ahead of its predecessor – 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV – which managed to sell 13 million copies in its first 12 months on sale. Of course, the current user-base for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is far greater than it was four years ago.

14 million copies sold would generate approximately $700 million in revenue for Rockstar Games, which last week forecast that FY13 revenue may reach as much as $1.85 billion.

GTA V was unveiled last November via a brief teaser trailer, though since that time nothing else has been shown on the game. A release date has yet to be announced.

I'm getting tired of all these analysts.....

Almost every other day, I see something about an analyst predicting how much GTA V will sell.

@2 Unfortunately yes, yes they do. And believe it or not, it is a really REALLY hard career to get into. One of the hardest in the country as a matter of fact. There are literally only a handful of these knuckleheads who get paid to look at gaming trend charts, make pretty much common sense analysis (well maybe 12% of them are actually insightful), and twiddle their thumbs all day.

I say be grateful they are so few in number. Could be alot worse. Could end up with so many gaming analysts that people fight over who is the most credible and then you end up with a new breed of idiocy: "Gaming Analyst Fanboys".
