GTA V unlikely to launch in pre-holiday 2012, says Michael Pachter

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes Grand Theft Auto V is unlikely to be released in time for the 2012 holiday season.
The analyst previously expected the hotly-anticipated crime sequel to be released in October 2012, putting it out in the same time frame as Resident Evil 6 and Assassin’s Creed III. However, Pachter now reckons this won't be the case.
The reason? Unsurprisingly, it all boils down to the game’s no-show at E3 this week.
"There was no announcement of Grand Theft Auto V at the show, making a pre-holiday release less likely," said Pachter, in a note to investors this week.
"Company management confirmed that it would most likely notify retailers of a GTA release 3 – 4 months prior to launch, suggesting that a GTA release date announcement is virtually certain to occur by November."
GTA V was announced last November by way of a brief teaser trailer, though nothing else on the game has been since.

The game will be released late October 2012, even a game magazine (Xbox 360 I believe) recently stated an October release date and there is no way they would risk doing that on a whim. Rockstar's no-show at E3 does not indicate anything other than a [sensible] decision to not attend an over hyped gaming event to showcase a game that everyone already knows will be incredible.
This is the same Michael Pachter who said there would be a GTA V "info burst" just before E3, right? I have seen these analysts being torn to pieces in various game related forums and now I am begining to understand why.

You say that Rockstar will tell retailers the release date at least 3 months prior to launch, right? Well I was in Blockbuster buying Max Payne 3 last week and I asked the dude, can I pre-order GTA V now? he said I could. As I was at the desk paying, I asked If the company gets inside info on games and release dates. Because he was new, I don't think he knew that he was not allowed to tell me. He said ''yeah we do, GTA V is on the system as October/November 2012 release'' which is at least 4 months away. I strongly believe, unless GTA V needs last minute work like GTA IV, it will be released in October or November 2012.

@1 I agree
These so called "analysts" are getting so annoying nowadays, chatting so much bull about these incredibly great games. Dnt they realise that everytime they are wrong we hate them more and more. And when you talk about a game like this, they have to make sure they are right.
Even if he is, millions are waiting for this game, so I am sure this will get them sad and angry.

@3 it probably will be pushed back. every rockstar game that I can recall pre-ordering or waiting for (since vice city) has been pushed back a few months. It's like, they know people want a date, and they want it sooner than later... so to please everyone they just give a reasonable date, but they know it wont come out then... so they tell people its been pushed back for this or that reason and in reality its because it would never have been ready until it was released anyway.

@Bones311
The games industry does not work like that, developers do not miss release dates on purpose. If a public company like Rockstar sets and misses a release date the price of shares drop, and that makes shareholders unhappy. It also attracts a lot of bad press, especially when a highly anticipated game like GTA V is in the spotlight. Missing a release date on purpose is very bad for business and Rockstar is obviously professional enough to avoid doing that whenever possible.
Serious last minute bugs are usually the main reason for delayed games, but ultimately the reason for a delayed game is always something that cannot be predicted by the game developer.

@timmyterryI imagine that date is a place-holder. I very much doubt Rockstar would release the game on a Tuesday, on New Years day, on the day the world has a massive hangover and most retailers are closed for business :)Some people will be queueing for hours to get their hands on a copy of GTA V on the day the game is released, and Rockstar wouldn't be evil enough make people do that on New Years eve of all days.
